what are the major criterias for the selection of tyres in the motogp and wsbk? am a newbie here.pls give info. thanks in advance.

you want to choose a tyre that offers the maximum grip for race distance.

a softer tyre will offer more grip in the early stages of a race and warm up faster , but will degrade faster than a hard tyre in the later stages especially if youre not smooth.

a harder tyre will take a little more time to get up to temperature and offer less grip but will be more durable and hence not lose as much performance and also allow for more aggressive riding.

so incase if one goes for hard front and soft rear, how is that balanced?does the rear one gets over before the front one?

that would depend on bike setup and riding style.

there are riders that like such combinations, guys that brake hard and carry a lot of corner speed and are smooth with the throttle on their way out of the corner should be able to save their rears and thus go for a softer rear tyre.

its not an easy formula which decides which tyre to use though, it all has to do with what tyre (front and rear) the rider feels most comfortable on their specifically set up bike while keeping in mind those tyres shouldnt go off with many laps to go.

Other than these Hard and soft compound tires, they use entirely different type for qualifying session, where the tire would last for only 1 or 2 laps when ridden hard, but the amount of grip would be much higher than even soft compounds.this lets the rider push it to the limit for that one or two qualifying lap with minimum lap time.they also use dual compound types,or they choose a tire according to the track,ie in a track with more right hand turns, they choose a more sticky compound in the right part..the choices are endless,,
