I don't think draconian measures are necessary but the security was ridiculous, those wire mesh fences didn't provide any kind of barriers. The ease with which people were lifting them was silly. It shouldn't be up to the stewards, who are volunteers I assume, to stop the hordes, the fences should be adequate. There was paper talk of Formula 1 going to Donington, I'm no fan of F1 but I can't imagine that they would accept village fete standard fencing for an event so why should motoGP?
We do see track invasions at a lot of the GPs, personally I've only been to Valencia last year and Donington today so my I'm talking mostly from TV pictures, there wasn't any invasion at Valencia. BUT, is it such a bad thing? It's a serious problem when people are on the circuit during the final lap as they were today but I think it can be a nice part of the spectacle. The close relationship between fans and riders is one of the things that sets GP apart from F1. I'm watching todays race on iplayer at the moment and the pictures of Valentino surrounded by fans, while he is still on his bike, when he won the 125 championship are heartwarming.
The problems and danger occur when people get onto the track before the races end as we saw today.
ps. I hope JT hasn't injured himself, I was down by the old hairpin so didn't see his high side.
