Gresini doesn't seem a bad option to me. Much better than ending up in a CRT team. Perhaps even better than the big unknown of going to a currently CRT team which will have some sort of customer Factory bike next year, as Gresini have the experience of running near the front.

gresini will replace their ftr-blade with a proddy
currently its bautista and staring riding for gresini, bautista has a contract to ride a prototype for 2014 and will probably lose his seat to redding (if he does as well as he's expected to) in 2015.
brokeback aoyama rides a ftr kawa and got nothing to do with the gresini situation.

Agree on Staring being filler...makes me feel old when I recall his entry into the 125 scene in Australia.
Much as I'd like to have seen Marc VDS go MotoGPing, seems a good option for Scott. Given the seat availability.
