But i don't think the overall performance of most of the top riders would not have been that different if they were using yamahas (if you hypothetically rule out the fact that they would have to adapt to new machinary and maybe tires).

But then again, hypothetically lest take Rossi out of the picture for a moment… In ’05 and ’06 with those Hondas, Yamahas and all, I would ask the same question: Which rider, from anyone on the grid (remember we got hypothetically Rossi out) could have taken the title on a Yamaha in those ’05 or ‘06?

The clutch was set deeper into the engine casing of Haydens evo honda with its shorter engine. This coupled with Haydens riding style caused problems with heat warping the plates or major clutch slip.

Like i said, i don't think there would have been a significant difference in the top riders performances over the season. I said that because even without Rossi, the next best rider along was Melandri. But i think Given the Yamaha Marco would still have come home second, Hayden 4th and Biaggi fith.

In fact, look at the final table for 2005, and in your mind replace every honda for a yamaha, and put the yamaha guys on hondas. Given the same state of development that actually happened in real life, i would expect the table to look almost the same.
