<{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I don't understand..you're saying he (Stoner) was 10 seconds slower over the total race distance in 2008 compared to 2007 and you blame it on the tires.
Yet his fast lap was one second faster in QP (1'59.516 in 2008 and 1'58.591 in 2008)? That doesn't make sense to me..a lot can happen over the course of 25+ laps and to blame it soley on the tires seems like a bit of a strech for me..
Seems like his pace was the same if not better but something didn't work out for him over the race distance..
Actually if you check out the race analysis for the respective races Casey's lap times were about the same in both years..
I'm sorry, Stoner had 10 extra clicks in a straight line for 2008, I find it hard to believe he was unable to make serious improvements at China on raceday. Furthermore, I blame the tires because Casey said he didn't have a good feeling throughout the weekend, and he was quite upset the team decided to run the softer compounds for the race. He said it himself. For the record I'm also confused that his team overruled his tire decision. That seemed to happen a lot during the early part of the season; especially for a guy that mopped the floor with the competition in 2007.
One thing though, you are right about his times. I have maintained that he was slower in every practice session, but I must have misread the data. Like you say, his times were more or less the same when you adjust for the conditions. He was faster in QP, then remarkably slower in the race.
