When did it start?
Lets not kid ourselves here, the type of man to race with plated fractures surely isn't opposed to some messerschmidt chocolate.

Is there any way to check who of the riders has asthma/adhd? Must be at least half the field.
I am willing to bet the house 90% of the field is at least treating their saddle sores/concentration/breathing/digestion with some cortison/methylphenidat/salbutamol/sauerkraut.
(you're welcome btw)
If you have never done stimulants/peds of any type and think you know better(i.e. "no !theres no way amphetamines help with stamina/concentration!Reeeeee!!!!")because you adore these guys: thats cool, keep it to yourself.
I beat countless piss tests(ze proper german type) with the help of just a bit of vitamin b and kreatin. These guys must be smarter and on wayyyyy lower doses.

Are they even in the drug testing pool when injured?

Well, Iannone got banned for it...so I'm guessing he's on the list at least.

And Anthony Gobert...

Wasn't Iannone just on some fat burner?
Go show... well I'd argue he should have been given extra points. Treating your body like .... and still perform? It's like in boxing one guy weighs 20kgs more but actively ...... up on the junk. Makes it fair in a sense.

Balance of performance.

Haga got busted in 2000 for using ephedrine to cut weight at the tail end of the 750cc era when they were turning up the wick and moving torque to the top of the rev band.

Ephedrine was incredibly popular in those days, but apparently illegal in FIM competition. Not sure if it's on the banned substances list now. It's basically low-grade cocaine. Made physical condition and training a cinch.

I'm sure it's been a thing since at least the 80s.

Iannone got in trouble for using some exotic anabolic steroid to lean himself beyond normal means. His suspension should be the driving force behind bike-rider weight limitations, especially since the evidence was so flimsy that the FIM had to dangle a 4-year suspension threat to discourage appeal.

Balance of performance.

You give me ideas.... Rider B is within 1 sec of rider A?
A gets a mandatory shot of Jäger before the next braking zone. PRS (not the overpriced guitars). Performance reduction System. And we don't need wings for it!

Whats interesting to me is how the PEDs are taken and how many of the riders might not even know it.

I'd massage my riders everyday with dubious creams. It'd be Lou Pearlman and the boys with leathers and kneepads.
Concerning ephedrin : thats a diet thing at best, can't hold a candle to methylphenidat (which would be 100% legal)
We need to know who has exemptions.

Cal Crutchlow is asthmatic, and there is footage of him using Salbutamol on the starting grid. As an asthmatic myself I can confirm there is no performance enhancement unless excessive doses are applied, and not possible through inhalation. Downside of abusive use of the substance being tachycardia which isn't pleasant nor useful unless taking part in true endurance sports. There was a big scandal regarding Chris Froome regarding abuse of this particular drug.

Regarding Ianonne, the substance in question was most likely Clenbuterol. Another asthmatic treatment, though used in the most severe instances of the condition. Clenbuterol has a thermogenic effect, meaning the bodie's internal temperature gauge is set higher, therefore burning fat. Secondary affect is that it also helps to retain muscle mass despite the loss of body fat. It is commonly used by competing body building athletes as well as in animal agriculture in places such as south and central America. Saul Canelo Alvarez (the boxer) tested positive but received an exemption as he was able to prove it was ingested inadvertently due to street food consumption, which is of course, complete and utter .........

I am firmly of the belief that a large number of top level athletes dope on a regular basis. The issue being that the anti doping bodies are always a step or two behind. Sports Science has come on leaps and bounds in the last few decades and ever more exotic compounds are being devised. It usually takes the regulators a couple of years to identify these new compounds, and another 2 to create testing protocols to reliably detect their usage.

It would have made sense if Iannone had been busted for Clenbuterol because he claimed to have failed his drug test due to contaminated meat.

Reports said he was actually busted for using drostanolone, which, to my knowledge is not one of the anabolic steroids given to livestock. Even if it were, most nations have strict rules for when steroids can be administered, and those rules would have been badly violated for Iannone to test positive.

Everyone knew he was lying, but I'm still not sure why he was given a light sentence, and threatened with appeal. It was not a criminal proceeding. It was a civil matter regarding an FIM license.

My bad, you are absolutely right. If I remember correctly his story fell apart because drostanolone is quite exotic, and therefore expensive. No livestock farmer would ever administer it.

His attempts to clear his name were ridiculous given the changes in his physique and facial look. Didn't he have to skip the first day of pre season testing for Aprilia due to a reaction to "dental work", that was actually jawline fillers?

I disagree about cheating with inhalers. They work. Being allowed to use the spray lets you get away with eating pills with the same ingredient. And thats one hell of a energy burst.
