This season we may see one of the most dominant of all time.

So to keep a track on it as it developes I thought I'd point out that so far the following riders can't possibly win ( mathematiclly ) even if Lorenzo suddenly go fishing, or decide he doesn't tolerate something .....

Who can't win with 8 rounds to go:

Esparago

Kalio

Bautista

Aoyama

DeAng.

RL Hayden

Akiyoshi

Yoshikawa

but give that the last 4 guys are not really regulars, its pretty amazing that it is still so open

Sure been one of the most eventful seasons for a while.

I would like to see Lorenzo finish all 18 rounds in either first or second place.....and he looks like he could do just that.

Agains't 3 of the greatest riders the sport has ever seen. In all the years Rossi has dominated there was never more than one rider who was a serious threat to his championship at one time. Now there are 4 guys who have a shot and out of the 4 Lorenzo is making the other 3 look silly.

I've only been watching for 10 years or so and I have never seen one rider have such a dominant season against real championship contenders.

The 3 "Silly Ones" are on the edge too, cos they've all been dropping it or riding safe.

Not sure there's ever been a season like this, let alone only 10 years of history, as you say 4 riders each capable of a win at any round.

But Lorenzo is just "consistence"ing them out of contention. ..... Who'da thought it after 08 and 09.

I did.. Maybe not as dominant as he is right now but I never doubted he would be great. He reminded me of Rossi when he was young. Rossi was always fast on whatever he rode from the start but he crashed a lot trying to figure it out. When he finally did noone could touch him. He mentions in his book that ever since he started racing it has been this way for him. Lorenzo is the same way but it took him a little longer to figure it out.

Krop had a great point a few weeks ago. He said that each generation of riders are becoming better than the last. The riders are more precise. No mistakes from lap to lap. Rossi has always been able to fend off "pretenders" but it's going to get much tougher now because this generation has progressed more than any other than we've seen.

Maybe temporarily. Most of the newer generation have been schooled in the lower classes and have graduated accordingly from the two strokes. This is obviously set to change with the advent of Moto 2 this season and the replacement of the 125 class. The youngsters are undoubtably clinical and precise - but so is the machinery availed to them, and as they evolve and hone their skills it is very much in conjunction with the rider aids.

The current crop of pretenders never had to tame a 500cc two stroke - and that feat imbued the rider with supernatural powers. This is why Valentino would be so in favour of a ban on TC or a reduction in electronics whereby the natural order would be resumed.

Is that the same Rossi who has allways had, and used the most advanced of electronics

The whole electronics debate is rendered moot whenever Rossi is involved. The whole control of 4 strokes power by electronics, as well as the inception of slipper clutches, was instigated because Rossi found the first RCV's unrideable.

The whole notion is merely to placate the "hordes" when they want to seek another "feelgood" about their rider whom they treat as a god.

Simple case in point ....... Rossi .... the "so against electronics and TC" ....... supposedly got on Toselands R1 and "instantly" was able to tell them how they should map the acceleration. ......... Something just doesn't "gel" there

I often wonder if it would turn out like F1 where new drivers came to the fore when no TC was instigated. Hows Schumaker look these days
<

But all that aside, the spec's are across the board ( mostlly
<
<
) so like it or not all teams have the same rules to develope too.

Lorenzo has come along, after riding a 250 with no TC etc. and in a few years has mastered what Rossi has had for years and is now dominating. As did Stoner in 07. This will happen, its a natural progession of almost all things in life, its evolution working.

I'm not sure how much of what we are currently seeing is rider generational improvement, and how much is technical "progress". Ban the super-sophisticated electronics and you may see the magic precision and consistency of this generation of riders disappear overnight.
