from MotoGPNews.com.....

It's with saddened hearts that we at MGPN have learnt that Team Roberts will not be competing in the 2008 MotoGP championship.

2007 proved to be a dire season for Team KR thanks to a catalogue of uncontrollable problems that stemmed from being supplied with a rubbish engine from Honda and resulted in them having use Kurtis as a rider.
Their engine supplier Honda, who instigated the 800cc rule change for 2007, oddly started the season in bad shape and understandably yet evilly concentrated all their efforts on their factory team. This left Team KR as stranded as Pedrosa on a tall chair.

A punch up followed that consequentially left the Banbury team needing a new engine supplier. Only the Ducati lumps were available but Team KR found themselves unable to raise the cash for the engines after the Italian team threw an extra few 'noughts' on the end of their price following the 2007 success.

Team KR were the last true privateer team in MotoGP and will be missed by all in 2008 and will leave the sorry remaining grid yet more depleted.
Hopefully two things will happen:-

1) Team Roberts will rejoin the fun in 2009
2) The rules will be changed to simplify MotoGP enough to allow privateer teams back into our sport.

Failing that expect the 2010 championship to have 10 riders in it.

i dunno about you lot but for me i just wont be the same without them

i wish them all the best for the future and good luck in what ever race series they compete in.

but as ive said before, it is a big money business

This is really bad. The minimum of pilots should be, at least, 20. 18 pilots racing???? It´s really sad. If the costs are so high, the manufacturers should give more help to people like Roberts. And I keep on saying: why doesn´t he have Yamaha support? They only have one satelite team??

I've always thought he should have gotten a Suzuki hart in their bikes. To bad the KTM deal fall out in what 2005 was it? Roberts will be missed in 08 but at least they didn't get the ILLmor engines. That would have made HRC look better.

how many privateers have been booted out of the top league in the last 10 years? Pretty sad state of things. Makes it Harder for the younger hopefuls to enter the big league.

This has been coming since the start of the MotoGP era (post 500s), so no one should be too surprised. It is a shame, but MotoGP is a business not a charity. The 500 era was great since we had small one man outfits competing with the factories, but that time is over and gone...so we should get used to it.

One the other side, this pretty much seals or relagates KRJR into GP retirement since the 2008 (and beyond) grid is pretty much full. However, the good thing is that this allows Kurtis to get on with career in AMA, and stop being his Father's slave.

I am sure King Kenny and his outfit will find work in other Motorbike championshisp...so best of luck to them all...

No one is or has been booted out MotoGP. King Kenny cannot find the backing to make the investment in the Ducati or other engines, and Dorna cannot afford to continue shoring up a money losing venture.

It's a shame they won't be there this year (and most probably the years following) but it would be pointless seeing them having another year like 2007 ... a Disaster! The grid is getting way too thin for my liking!

Curve will be disappointed ... one less umbrella girl!

The reason for not going to Yamaha - is many moons ago he ran the main factory team and got fed up following instructions on what to do. He wasn't allowed his input. Also the final nail in the coffin was when Waine Rainy had his back broken in the accident that led to Kevin S to win the title.

It also had to do with King Kenny wanting to prove you could win the title without the Japanese....He was thinking he could do it, but Ducati beat him to the punch.

"IF" this is true...it's very sad...

...did they have a deal going with Ducati for engines??

KRJR came sixth in the championship in 2006. The team had turned a corner. The departure of team KR is another unbearable side effect of the 800s "solution".

Dorna is really getting on my last nerve. Ezy is incompetent. I want the FIM to remove him and hire someone with a bit more integrity. Motogp needs someone who is capable of managing the sport through up and down, not someone petrified by the idea of temporary retraction.

Motorcycle Gran Prix has always attracted an offbeat crew of fans and competitors. I'm worried Ezy is turning the sport "vanilla" to raise revenues.

....... awful news. But expected. There is something fundamentally wrong with motogp if a team like this, with it's talented personnel, along with the fact it is a 'going concern' with a working HQ, cannot find a viable way to compete. It's a ....... sad state of affairs, pisses me off.
