Assume they make it on the grid and field competent riders (i.e. De Puniet, Spies, etc.), around what bike on the current grid do you think their performance will be around in 2014? I'm thinking at least it will be around Aspar's ART pace, maybe not from the outset but over the course of the season. Though in the back of my mind even that might be too optimistic.

I don't know what to expect. I hope they are competitive - I think MotoGP needs Suzuki. I also hope they have enough cash to put 2 bikes on the grid (not just the one like before their exit). I would like to see two decent riders representing them. I don't think Randy and Ben are gonna be fast enough to elevate them up the field. I would love to see Casey make a come-back and thrash that bike to it's maximum. But that aint gonna happen. Give Cal a seat. It is yet to be seen whether he has the talent of the elite riders. But the guy certainly HAS proven he has the balls. Plus he has no deal for next year..

They need better than those two,,  Suzuki will be way ahead of the CRTs from the start and as they will be joining an existing and proven  team they will progress quickly.

So getting a podium in the wet suddenly makes you an alien?

Have you ever watched a wet race before? They are typically a war of attrition and the results are not indicative of a typical weekend. By your logic maybe Suzuki should hire Chris Vermeulen

With Randy and Ben riding them, they won't even make it past lap 5 before ending up in the gravel traps.

No that's not what i am saying, He has been on the podium a few times in the wet and dry, far more than the rest of the pack and the only rider to constantly be a threat ,last year he was forth whilst trying to get past Danny and only two seconds behind the winner Casey, that requires talent,on Sunday he beat every body except Danny in the wet whilst Rossi was firmly beaten by Cal and then fell off, that requires talent,Jorge now says Cal is the best on the brakes, that requires talent. He has beaten Rossi two out of four times this year and leads him in the championship but you still refuse to say he is an alien. Johnny i have been watching sinse 1975 so its easy to see talent, something you don't posses.

I'd contend that there are only three aliens, and one of them is driving V8 Supercars.

I don't think Suzuki's pace can be accurately predicted, though, some might be able to take a wild guess.

Unlike Ducati, who've been miffed by the control tires since their inception, Suzuki have the ability to tune the chassis properly. If Denning's parting shot can be trusted, Suzuki's lack of competitiveness following 2007 was caused by a glacial development pace and rigid budgeting by-laws that prevented the Suzuki organization from adapting quickly to a raft of tire changes. Since Suzuki are a factory outfit, and since many talented riders are languishing on CRT or satellite equipment, Suzuki will have the chassis and rider components in place shortly after their return to competition.

The electronics are the problem. MotoGP is moving to a spec MM unit, but Suzuki have reportedly always used Mitsubishi kit, provided to them free-of-charge. They probably don't have the scratch to buy anyone so Suzuki's fate is probably in the hands of the electronics crew. I don't know what electronics Suzuki use in WSBK, but perhaps they will get a bit of info from Denning et al.

I would like to see them more competitive than the ducati's.  If they can do that within half a season, i see them sticking around for awhile.

Last year Cal was beaten by Dovi on the same bike.  Does that require talent?

Cal is doing what he needs to do in order to be given the machinery to compete routinely with the top three.  He's doing very well and appears to be developing the kind of patience and racecraft  that have stunted his rise in the past but "Alien" already without a win?  GMAFB!   You English sure do seem to need a hero.

You must be more specific, Austin. You can't let a good controversy go to waste :D

levi you are about as bright as johnny,   dovi in his 11th year at gp level with a world title and many wins including one at mgp and three years on the best factory bikes,he beats a guy in his second year on a sat bike, there is no point even talking to brain dead people.we don't need a hero as we can just watch your'es failing at every race that's far more entertaining.

Oh yeah...? Two can play at that game. In the last 30 years you had Sheene (and we all loved him).

On the other hand we've had.... more world championship wins than you can count on both hands.

Seriously - put all the nationalistic ........ aside. Cal is talented but he's not world championship material no matter how bad you want to believe it. No doubt a great guy to hang with at the pub, he's never been on the top of the podium and baring catastrophe of some kind, I doubt he ever will. He's probably reaching the pinnacle of his career in this season or the next, and then it's all downhill from there.

Edwards was far more accomplished when he came into MotoGp than Cal, but he reached his limit like so many racers do. I predict a similar trajectory for Cal, B. Smith and Redding - not because they're Brits - but simply because to an objective eye, they're only above average.

Oh... and while it's true that Dovi has more experience, by turns, it's equally true that he's considerably older than Cal. Even Rossi is not immune to the ravages of time.

What the .... would you know LG? Your post sounds logical but didnt you realize that we have our very on GP talent scout on the forum that says you are wrong. Hes been watching on his tv for 37 years . That surely gives him the ability to scout the next alien.

...., if him and babelfish get together they would be quite the power duo. Babel could discern undiscernable mechanical issues from his couch amd text it to the team mechanic. I bet he could have figured out the Duc front end problems in between commercials and The Deal could spot the next up and coming alien while streaming from his laptop. Maybe if deal could get some footage of his boyfriend BJC riding a 500 he could determine if the next superstar is a current PS member. That would be awesome. The problem Is BJC seems to have owned everything in life but a camera.

One of the talking points seems to be that Cal has beaten Rossi. Rossi has had 4 races on that bike..this is not the same bike he stepped off 2 years ago. Because its Rossi most assume he should be an alien straight away but what they are forgetting is that for the 1st time in his career he is on a bike that isnt and wont be developed around him. If anyone else was riding the factory Yam after stepping off another manufacturer they would be given half a season before being criticized about being beaten by a guy who has had 2 years on a very similar bike..

Kesh i don't dissagree with you on Cal,however this constant comparison against Dovi last year is a joke on an experience level, if we are going down that road Cal must be the best in the world as he is beating the 9 time world champ at the moment.

Who's my failing hero?  When it comes to GP, nationality is of little value to me.  In any event, you may have your winless "Alien" if that's what keeps you interested.  I like Cal, he's really growing on me.  The composure he's demonstrated thus far this season I frankly didn't expect.  He's got talent, but he's no Alien.

An Alien would be winning immediately...say like Marquez.  Will Cal ever beat MM with regularity?  I say no, not on any machine. Oh, and if it pleases you, neither will any of the Yanks in the field, present or future.
