I've got an SV1000S and it is very comfy but on track it is only as quick as a 600 and because of the weight/geometry I get left behind (that's my excuse!). They are good bikes but not exactly exciting if you want to up the pace a bit. If I had the same money again I think I'd get something different, either a used GSXR or a used Ducati.
I had a gsxr 600 but is was uncomfy as hell, 40-50 miles and my wrists ached, I did want a duc until a wrode my mates 748 home get fun but it was like being on a bone shakker, thanks for the reply
My Dad has a Ducati ST2, and rode a SV1000 awhile ago. He liked it quite a bit. If I remember correctly, he said the brakes needed more bite and suspension was soft. Both are easy fixes. He liked the power but then again all he rides is two valve Ducatis.

ive been to valencia but not estoril, i picked it as one of my favs because i like racing it on motogp3 on the ps2. i would love to go to estoril, infact i was planning a holliday there then on to valencia the following week but there not back to back races in 2007 season.
I've ridden a sv650 and plan to race one in the not too distant future.
The 1000 has plenty of power for any sane human, handles very well and is reasonably comfy vs a 600 bike. You’ll notice that the forks especially are under sprung and pretty “mushy” some add heavier weight fork oil others (cheap) get it revalved with stiffer springs (more $$$).
Drop the front sprocket down a gear, slip ons and a power commander and it’s liven the bike up a whole bunch.
The brakes were pretty squishy on 650 and I’m assuming that the 1000 are the same – put on some HH pads and use some better brake fluid (pretty cheap) next try a stainless steel front brake lines and that doesn’t work a new master brake cycl.
