Right....I have a new job and it will take me some 1.5 hours to get to office in rush hour (thanks to M25). I am parking up my M5, and have bought a 'commuter' car
<
, well....for me it will be a commuter...it is an Alpina B3 1995....However, I will be biking it on most days when the English weather doesn't try to freeze or drown me.....so I want some suggestions on a faired and fun bike that might get decent MPG. My Senna S4 will be used from time to time, but i need a real commuter bike as well....budget is about £2000 for the full price or down payment....

I am currently considering;

- Yamaha Thundercat

- Yamaha R6

- Duke ST2

- Duke 748

- Triumph 675

Other ideas are welcome...prefer bikes with decent engine braking...

thanks for your input...

Simple, if you're a Rossi bopper, get a duke. If you're a Stoner bopper (termed 'Boner'?) Get a Honda and if you're a J-Lo bopper get the Yam

I kid I kid.

To be honest Migs, i'd advise against a Duc as a commuter bike. I love them and my brother has 2, but they are more high maintainence than an equivavent jap bike (By brother has a Monster M600 and a 916 S4). I've no experience of the 675 but my dad has a Bonneville and its a great bike, well built and like a reliable Ducati. Between the R6 and Thundercat, while the R6 is an awesome bike I'd say the Thundercat would be a more confortable cruiser and commuter.

At the end of the day its down to personal choice.

P.S. Respect for the BMW's and Senna S4 ownership

Yamaha R6 or Thudercat, but the Ducati or Triumph is damn tempting. If it wasn't such a long commute, I would say SuperMoto or Motard.

is the m5 the e39 model?the alpina is great, i have a normal e36 and love it to death so congrats on that

are you sure you want a supersports bike for going to work? especially given that you already have a senna model and it should take you quite a while?

don't know the m25 but i would never ever choose a bike over a car (let alone a e36

) when going to work on a highway

a commuting bike should be reliable and cheap so that rules out the ducati in my opinion...

have you considered other types of motorcycles as well? i imagine you'd do yourself a big favor choosing a bike that allows you to sit upright when for the majority of the trip you're just keep going straight at limited speed.

my suggestion : bmw f800r

gets you great mpg , fairly cheap, handles good, loads of torque, sporty yet very comfortable riding position ...get a windscreen on it and you've got the ideal bike in my opinion

Ditto - the short blast to work on my xt660 is lots of fun

How about a Triumph Tiger? Theres a bloke in another office that commutes on one, looks the part - plenty of wind protection & he reckons its a great ride.

f800 beemer is a good choice i reckon.

Id be steering clear of the ducati unless u got someone who can pry you joints open once you get to where you're going
