The guy who handed Stoner's ... to him was Lorenzo. Rossi was more like a vulture who got a sniff of the dying carcass of Stoner's rear B-Stone and swooped in like a good little parasite. Enjoy the moment while you can Rog. Savor it. First legit podium since joining Ducati.

Nah they all looked the same after the race!

Well from what I saw anyways.

I'd say Bridgestone did quite a good job with the tyre's this round?

As a side note.

They did seem to perform better than they did on the moto2 &3 bikes or was that the electronics making the difference?

Yeah was sort of going along the same line of thinking.

More retirements than crashes (excluding those that got back on and finished) in GP I think.

But just more crashes full stop in the two lower classes.

Maybe Bridgestone should be cut a bit of slack for a few races?

Ahh, Keshav needs a hug.

Nah... I've seen the way you hug.

Yeah,,,, there's a limit to what guys like you and I can discern from a quick glance at the tires via a computer screen. Stoner said quite distinctly that the tires were working well for him up until the rain stopped at which point the tires got greasy and there was no edge grip. The Duc and the Yamaha have over the last few years been more forgiving on tires.

The yam has had some front tyre issues though. Remember lorenzo in parc ferme checking out stoners front. Jerez i think i was?

i think that also has a lot to do with jorge riding the front very hard where as stoner (expecially in fast corners) loads the rear much more. which works if conditions are good for the tyre, but as soon as tyre degredation plays a role he always seems to lose edge grip though. soft tyres, not wet enough track are stoners biggest enemies IMO

I don't think the current tyre stuation is at all clear, and seems different with the new bikes even apart from the new tyres.

Stoner has got the old soft tyres to last at jerez and estoril which he had problems with in previous years. He definitely seems to have problems with the wet tyre this year which I don't remember him having previously. If you recall, he didn't do the warm-up at jerez (which was wet, although the race was dry) due to concerns about wet tyre longevity.

However, if he can't make them last and jorge and valentino can that is his and honda's problem, not theirs. This is not necessarily a great track for him historically, in the wet at le mans at 2007 he finished a distant 3rd with chris vermeulen winning, albeit with his title rivals behind him, not the same situation as this year's race. He won last year but after the simoncelli/pedrosa incident (of which he was clear) but I think jorge had a problem in the early laps as well.

double

wtf michaelm, how can you sandwich my posts with a triple`?

There seems to be a problem, probably a server hang up or something. Im also have posting issues but have learned to only hit the post button once. Even if your post is still there in the reply box it has gone through, it just looks like it hasn't. If your un-sure open up ps in another tab and see if its in the thread. If you keep hitting the reply it will just keep re-posting. Hope this helps.

I think if the rain had continued he would have pushed Jorge for the win. When the rain stopped he had issues.

So I think the damp conditions don't suit him tire wise whereas the full on rain conditions are fine such as Silverstone last year.

True. It may well be the lack of a current bridgestone intermediate tyre, about which there have been complaints particularly from him.

I suspect they over shot the set up designed to get heat in the rear after morning warm up where the problem surfaced.

I think it is safe to say that in general Honda have a chassis issue and that they have got the design completely wrong. It is worrying for Yamaha that Honda are still so competitive with a chassis that is giving some major problems. I wouldn't be surprised to see Stoner and Pedrosa doing some private testing of a new chassis soon.

Just like engine and frame, tires are part of the game (too big a part, one could say). To win (or even podium) in MotoGP everything has to be perfect or at least damn good. The capacity of Stoner to compensate for the understeer of the Ducati had to do with his own riding style, and is a notable exception. Even with all his fantastic skill, he could not compensate for the vagueness of the front end. On the Honda, he's always the fastest guy, but especially in race trim he's not so much faster than a Pedrosa on the same bike or Lorenzo on the Yamaha: he's the best, no doubt imo, but the margin is thin, so he needs everything OK to make that difference and win. In the wet, even an aging Rossi on an understeering Ducati can still beat him, when he has a problem with his tires. That's the situation. And that's probably why Stoner is so opposed to racing lesser bikes than the most thoroughbred prototypes: it would be even more difficult for him to make the difference.

You do?

I bet Rossi wishes Ducati had it so wrong. Sorry, I can't agree. Stoner has some chatter. Pedrosa doesn't seem to have a problem with chatter, so that would indicate a setup issue getting to grips with the new tyres.

I think they do have an incompatibility with the new tyres, but to say 'they have got the design completely wrong' is, IMO, wrong.
