what i can't get my head around though is that he says in 2009 he realized the paddock was a business and had nothing to do with passion

Thats an incredibly naive statement from someone who was in the paddock for quite a number of years before

Everything is business.

All you need to know about life is that the world circles around money, power and .....

Moto2 and moto3 teams are not allowed to park their motor-homes in the paddock as one of the reasons for retiring. Why the hell would that bother Casey Stoner?

thats my problem with bringing kids as young as 15 into the paddock and let them grow up there and center their lives around motorcycle racing

no wonder some grow up to be disillusioned and unwordly to say the least

if you live in a camper thats another obstacle

i guess at this point its quite clear why he decided to quit. now that his decision is firm though it appears to me that he addresses all the BS thats bothering him. i think its a good thing he does this, people who label him a whiner will never be his fans anyway , might as well be him who draws attention to everything thats wrong in his mind

It would seem he is an arrogant idealist. A little hard to fit into your preconceptions perhaps?

Because it means they have to stay in hotels. Which cost money.

People who make/have made serious money professionally not infrequently talk of acquiring "get ....../.... off " money. I would guess he has his.

No need to get bitchy mike, i only asked a question !

At the beginning of the motogp show on bbc they were doing short interviews with riders team bosses ect. Can't remember his name but he is the top dog at HRC. He said something interesting. He said "its all my fault". Am i the only one who thinks something has gone on behind closed doors causing casey to jack it in. Rather than give the real reason he would just prefer to put the world to rights with his many "idealistic" reasons?

You are the one who sits in judgement of riders' characters on here, not me as a general rule. You have frequently called him an arrogant self centred prat. As lex has said, his motives are hard to fathom. I don't know what they really are and nor do you, but they are perhaps not as simple as you have considered them to be.

As for the honda thing, something that might be plausible is that honda said 2 year deal, take it or leave it, thinking he was trying to work the angles about moving to another team, and he said leave it.

well what did you expect?!

i can certainly respect though that he does not want to be a part of this any longer, i'd rather retire from gp racing too before i lost my passion for bikes
<
speaking of pavlov, how ...... would it be if he kept going but everytime he heard a bike revving he'd be pissed and bored because he thought of media stuff subconciously

You need to understand that as someone who's been racing since he was a little kid - that his perspective is different than that of us fans.

I look at members of rock bands that burn out in two or three years and walk away from mega-careers, and then at other musicians who

pathetically slog on for decade after decade doing the golden oldies tours because being in front of an audience is the only thing that props up their esteem. Especially the heavy metal bands where there's guys in their mid-sixties still dressing up like they were 19 years old and behaving the same.

Stoner clearly found that the dreams of fulfillment that carried him as a 14 year-old - were insubstantial and he decided to live a more adult, fulfilling life. He grew up. A lot of folks are bitter because he's leaving them behind now that he no longer shares their youthful illusions.

Don't make me kick your .... Iron Maiden still rocks harder than any of those young mascara wearing pseudo-rockers.

Why wouldn't it? What's hard to understand about that?

Because he is not in a moto2 or 3 team so if doesn't effect him at all. Sure he may think it unfair to those teams but to give that as one of his reasons for retirement? Who appointed him paddock nanny? If the moto2 and 3 teams don't like it then they should bring it up with dorna. I cant see it has anything to do with Casey. Why don't i jack my job because the people in a different department don't have as nice an office as me?

Bloody hell, are you really that such a cynical old .......?

Yeah there goes your generic ........ reply ( but he said she said bla bla) . I asked one simple question. Why is stoner bothered where moto2 and 3 park their motor-homes. Hardly sitting in judgement is it mike? Why cant you deal with the post in question, you always got to harp on about other posts irrelevant to the one in question. You really have turned into a ....... old lady mike !

just because he is not affected financially does not mean hes not upset by it

@ kesh, what i said came across a bit wrong . i'm fully aware as to why those guys are the way they are. i just wish it wasn't the norm that most these kids have to sacrifice their youth to make it to gps. if it was up to me to write the rules, all forms of racing would start at 16 years old, with gps having an entry barrier of 18 years old but thats a whole different topic

casey being disillusioned by discovering the sport is a business after all ,and jorge being estranged from his dad, are classic examples why teenagers should be teenagers and not world championship riders in their youth
