Do you reckon he had a similar upturn in form after the previous ones, or is it different this time?

I remember Alberto Puig had the same problem: maybe it's infectious.

My recollection is that if a person isn't allowed to rest and heal for a substantial time the problem becomes chronic. Same is true for carpal tunnel injuries.

I thought the quote was 'over a second' but with no details (ie. a little over or a lot over) but still even at 1.5 seconds under the circumstances that isn't to bad at all given it was referencing the season starting Sepang test.

Found it - thanks to Krop's site (if an issue posting it please advise)

According to German-language website Speedweek, Marquez felt threatened by Stoner's presence as a test rider, and criticized the input Stoner had given on the project. Marquez claimed he had to test everything Stoner had already tested, to check Stoner's feedback. HRC sources also let slip that Stoner had been over a second off the pace during his most recent test, at Sepang at the beginning of 2015, and so the combination of resistance from Marquez and slow times had made HRC reluctant to use the Australian. Stoner's lack of pace was also a factor in HRC not asking Stoner to replace Dani Pedrosa when the Spaniard was out with injury, something which Stoner had taken badly.

Also, elsewhere I had read that Stoner had reported back about the engine characteristics and the likely issues but that HRC ignored them as Marquez did not agree with the feedback. Subsequently of course we know that MM has been very critical of the power characteristics - will see if I can find the article

A test rider in test coditions, who laps 1 second off the pace, is going very fast. Usually they are 2 or 3 seconds off at best.

I have the impression, more and more, that it was Marquez who didn't want Stoner. I hope Honda and MM will find Stoner on their way sooner or later, on a well sorted Ducati. I'm loking forward to it.

The more I see, hear or read the more I am gaining the same impression, although whether it was Marquez or Alzamora I would not know as afterall, from all reports Alzamora has a lot of power

Personally, I would love to know the thoughts of Suppo ............ and I mean the non-HRC political line thoughts

You'd have thought HRC would have learned from the Puig debacle.

Exactly.

But if stories are to be believed (and Krop can jump in here anytime as he has freely commented), but Alzamora may be worse, far worse.

On the flip side for a second, whilst we have always given Puig a very hard time for his ways, it is unfortunate that we recall that side of him and not the great work he has done assisting riders and bringing them through the classes as, afterall his record is near impeccable given the riders he has assisted

Particularly if he was not altering the settings to his own preference.

I would also love to see Stoner actually racing a Ducati again, but still consider that to be an unlikely occurrence. One can only hope he is really annoyed, reasonably or not, and that sensational testing times on the Ducati prompt him to return.

I have to say , and despite recent discussions I remain no real fan of MM whilst recognising his talent, that it is perhaps not unreasonable that after winning 2 championships for Honda he wouldn't be overly impressed by them continuing to humour/perhaps partially keep on the back burner a retired rider of Stoner's stature. I don't think Stoner would have had a problem with them replacing Dani with MM and giving him equal treatment had he not retired though, but I am obviously a Stoner fan boy.

Much to the dismay of JKD and MDub, I believe we will be seeing Casey on the Desmosedici in a race this year.

I would never underestimate the power of the Marlboro money. There was a lot of talk that they were putting a ton of pressure on Ducati to get results going into 2015. I don't believe this has changed. I can see a small fortune being thrown Casey's way.

Sometimes in life, you get an offer you simply cannot refuse.

Regardless of whatever things he has said in the past in public, I believe the competitive nature in him has never gone away, and motorcycle racing was something he was born to do. He wants to do things on his terms, and I think Ducati was willing to acquiesce on all of it for the possibility of getting him back on the Desmo for a grand prix. It certainly helped that Honda wouldn't let him ride for Dani, and then the 8 Hours of Suzuka crash was denied by Honda as being a mechanical failure.

Either way, I will continue hoping to see him on the grid come Phillip Island. I would love to see him and Marc Marquez going head-to-head.

Hey I don't mid if old man stoner comes back. You think we have a lot to say about him now just wait. The only thing that bums me out is that the ducati was finally getting competitive.

Dubs, the GP15 would have won at least three races with Stoner on the bike. In fact he would have been a bona-fide title challenger with that bike.

On the surface, that seems like a bold statement, but considering the talent difference between Dovi/Ianoone and Stoner, i could seriously see him winning 2015 Qatar and PI considering his dominance at those tracks. Not sure he would have been a title contender as the Ducati still has bugs that just will not allow it to compete on certain tracks
