As PI test things gone
Current champion set a time 1min 28.777. 0.424 seconds under pedrosa´s pole time last octuber grand prix
Who could stop stoner´s peformance this season?

I dont want another dominating season by stoner, I want the bikes to be even so Rossi and some americans can get back up there

only one rider can stop him at the moment I think, and thats .......

Stoner himself

but seriously he does look so determined that I wonder if only a return to his "2006 ways" will stop him

lets just wait to see how the season unfolds. it's just testing. stoner always runs balls out whenever he's on track. remember last year yamaha were going to wipe the floor & finish 1-2. that did'nt work out to well.

Oh be quiet, just give Stoner the title already. Hes "won" the tests.

Oh wait, Hayden "won" at Sepang I test, give him the title.

Ah man, Rossi is going to Sepang II, uhm, maybe we should wait to see who "wins" the test there and give him the title, eh.

They have much more time at testing to analyze stuff and set faster laps... i would expect last years pole record to be broken like many of the pole times are from the previous year as the bikes usually get faster.

Stoner looks impressive as always, no tactics, no keeping a lower profile, he just shows all his strength and lets the rivals know without mistake where the stakes are.

These tests are only tests, but - imo - they confirm something I have been suspecting since the second half of last season: Ducati is fast, OK, Bridgestones are excellent, OK, but the real difference is made by Stoner himself.

I am sure that major Jap manufacturers are already thinking how to 'steal' him from Ducati after 2008. Maybe this is what could 'stop' him, or at least slow him down - if he goes after money, maybe ends up on a different bike that might not suit his style as well as the Ducati... ?

I kinda wonder about that myself ..... but I was wondering if maybe he might be the one Kawasaki need ..... its a raw bit of gear so I kinda see it as the nearest thing to a Duc.??

I am still waiting to see what rossi has, as no doubt you are. The yamaha still looks a great handling bike and rossi is still a great cornerspeed rider. Last year pushing this to try to match the ducati's speed and acceleration advantage and stoner's ability to get the thing around or at least out of corners rapidly enough, one way or another, resulted in his tyres not lasting the distance in several races. The bridgestones may well address this problem. I think ducati will still have an acceleration and top speed advantage; the question will be how much.

The chief designer at Kawasaki is Yoda, who was Yamaha's designer at the time of Biaggi if I am not wrong. The Kawasaki has a powerful engine but its architecture is like Yamaha's, IL4, so it is a shorter and more agile bike than the Ducati. Anyway, there have been abundant rumors that Rossi himself will end up at Kawa if he has another disappointing season with the Yam.

I actually think Honda will be after Stoner soon - or at least I would be after him if I was Honda...

Yes, let us see if and how Rossi can recover those 4-5 tenths per lap that Stoner is still commanding at the moment. If he can catch up, the 'how' could help us understand better from where these tenths have been coming. Meanwhile, the fair thing is to credit Stoner - especially in view of the performance of riders like Capirossi and Melandri on the same bike...

As I have said before, my technical knowledge is not up with yours and with many other posters. I think the ducati's speed and acceleration advantage is at least partly down to aerodynamics, and you would think this would detract from the handling on top of the trellis frame chassis etc which is supposed to be archaic. However something perhaps intrinsic to stoner seems to allow him to get it through the corners quickly enough; perhaps his point and shoot riding style, who knows?
