2010 is coming, but the winter is too long ..well Dec 2009 comes, testing in Sepang.. and then e will see in Qatar if Spies can beat Hayden and Stoner. Then he can get factory ride : Yamaha or a Honda..

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BarryMachine @ Nov 12 2009, 07:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>If anything the rookies allways look better in testing as they are just there to get used to things, and they tend to want to impress.
So we should expect Simoncelli and Barbera to fall further down the order then?

And then when that's all squared away - y'all can move to Spain and
let the Indians back on the land.

Problem is bro, we are mostly at least half part indian!

Also, after some went back to Spain, the arabs there would have to go back... and so on!

Okay so only half go back.

If the Arabs all went back to their homeland - oh hell... I ain't gonna
go there.

Take it from me. I toured Spain extensively. The Arabs were the best thing to happen to Spain. The Christians were animals in comparison and I defy anyone to argue the point.

He's thinking of the original Party Animals, the Catholics.

African Arabs, I'm pretty sure these guys were the 'Moors,' had held Spain from BC500(?) to ~1500BC.  They were not the hard line Islamics we know and love today.  Yea, it was the Dark Ages, and life was tough, but non-believers were largely tolerated.  Life, apart from the plague and other fun distractions, was good.

From 1200(?) to ~1500, the Crusaders slowly evicted the Arabs from Southern Europe.  As they consolidated their power, the Catholics set up a nice little Loyalty Test, call the Inquisition.  Islamics, Jews, Gypsies, any random Protestants dumb enough to live in Spain, and other undesirables got 'the treatment.'   Apart from this rampage of terror and murder (and, most importantly, seizure of wealth) the Catholics tended to run the newly conquered lands and people with a less than tolerant hand.  The whole Spanish culture was repressed in a big way.

It seems like a harsh thing to say but study the history of the period. The queen of the era, Isabel, vowed to not bathe until the moors were thrown out and she didn't, for over a year. Go through Alhambra and marvel at the civil engineering at a time whilst the average Spaniard was convinced that the devil enters the pores of the clean ( .... sakes!)....there is no comparison to the level of intellect. I have to say I find the whole Muslim mentality daunting (understatement) but the intellect was an order of magnitude ahead. Sure this is fairly OT but I was very well studied in this regard and my mind was made up within days.

At the time of its inception, Islam was a very different animal to the feral beast that rampages around the world today. It was tolerant and promoted great learning and understanding. Not only did it produce great scholars, but the likes of great navigators such as Ibn Batuata who spearheaded the greatest period of exploration of the medieval period.

The Alhambra is one of the most serene places on earth. Many years ago having climbed Mulhacén, I sat in the Mirador De San Nicholas at twilight and savoured the view of the citadel with the mighty range of the Sierra Nevada juxtaposed behind it. Although the Moors were repelled from Granada by Ferdinand and Isabella, it was some 700 years earlier that the high tide of Muslim expansion into Europe was turned at the Battle of The Tours in France - one of the most significant hinge factor moments in history. Had this battle gone the other way the continent would have been shaped a totally different way with Islam and Sharia governance and Western European cities characterised by a skyline of mosques and minarets. Hold on, isn't that 21st Century Britain I'm describing here!!!???

Anyway back to OP - give the lad from Tennessee a few seasons to sort his .... and he'll be the next in the long line of great US World Champions. Quite simply - he's got all the qualities needed.

arrab islam was rampaging from it's inception just like christianity. military conquest was the rule of the day.

Yea, I figured so. It's been years since I've read about that stuff...  Call me senile.

EDIT - LOL "BC" does put me in the wrong zip code, eh? That was a brain fart.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Babelfish @ Nov 12 2009, 06:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Problem is that he is by no means there right now. He is not at the top of the time charts, and of course nobody expects that either, it's just that there is no way to know how far he will improve, because that's what he does all the time, he improves, he climbs but no one know for sure where it stops. He took on the SBK challenge and upped his pace and won the championship, he took on the GP challenge and has improved a lot these 5 days but it remains to be seen if he is a true "alien". Others have had optimistic starts, JT where 6th in his first race just to mention one. Look where that got him. We've seen time after time extraordinary talent that goes no-where. I'm not at all suggesting that he will go there just that right now your predictions are probably at a 1:4 - 1:3 in odds and that's not at all bad.

gee, i finally agree totally with you babel

In other words, nothing has changed except the power balance.
