IMO Spies is THE rider in the field to give vale the most competition...even more than stoner 2008 (till he decided to take naps next to the track) and even lorenzo in 2009! maybe not next year on the tech-3. but he will be closer than most people think.

i predict that ben spies wont go down as often as pedrobot or lorenzo might. I think youll see him like 0, 2 sec off the pace of the leaders from day one next season!

anyone (dis-) agree???

money well spent by Yamaha!!!!!!!!
im still not quite convincd he is fully alien, but ide be surprised if he doesnt finish the championship ahead of Edwards, i think on the factory yamaha he still may not be as quick as lorenzo/rossi, but he wouldnt be far off.
this is all pointless really as only time will tell.

the reason Doohan was so old when he won his 1st championship is because he got smoked by Wayne Rainey and didnt win until Rainey left and he didnt have many great riders to beat, although the margins Doohan won by proved how much faster than the rest he was.

yeah dont totally agree. its a lot of if's, but if lorenzo stayed on the bike more often he wouldve scored more points. if casey didnt stopped 3 races he had more points too. if dani was injured free at the start of a season he mightve scored more too. and dont forget the new rookies coming up too..

yeah its proven he did a good job this last race in valencia. spies has talent and potential, so does everyone else in motogp.

I disagree.

of course ALL rider s in GP are EXCELLENT riders....

but you all know what i mean when i tell you there are BRILLIANT riders and CHAMPIONS!

spies is a guy that just is that extra 0,5 seconds quicker, that bit more aggressive when it comes to a dogfight, has that little extrafeeling that keeps him on the bike where an "only" brilliant" rider has a highsider...

"very good" might be not enough for a rider to stay in GP (elias, de Angepi..lis)
<

spies is MORE than "very good"...

IMO he has this little extra that guys like schumacher, rossi, etc. have (had)....

Spies need at least 2 years before he can seriously challenge for MotoGP title. 2010 is Lorenzo, Stoner and Rossi..and maybe Pedrosa.and toward the end Spies .But I still believe it is between Lorenzo, Rossi and Stoner.. If LOrenzo use his head he is already 2009 MotoGp champion. Next year, it will be difficult to predict..maybe the repeat of 2006..

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (xx CURVE xx @ Nov 11 2009, 04:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Stoner will never win another one...at some point that yeast infection will flare up and he'll need a 9 week nap.

besides I mean Multi Championships.... in a row.
<

I dont mean NEXT year...or the one after that...maybe when Rossi retires
<

dude........Doohan was 29 when he won his fist Champion ship, 34 on his last.
W. Rainey won his first Championship when he was 30 he would have had more than 3 if not for his crash. Lawson won his last two in his early 30s.

So Ben being too old for the gig is horseshit....
Face it...American men hold up better than Euro men
<

Then consecutive is the word your looking for,not multi

Spies will ride strongly already in 2010, I have no doubts. In 2011 he will be ready to challenge for the title. By that time, add Simoncelli (if he also gets a Yamaha) and you'll have 6 Aliens...!

To win the title with so many top contenders, consistency will be the key. In that sense it will be a WC in 2006 style. Spies looks very consistent to me, and strong in direct confrontations, similar to Rossi. The current Aliens will have to work harder and harder to beat the new aliens

I really can't see this happening. I don't see Simoncelli anywhere but a factory Honda in 2011. Yamaha made their investment in Spies and missed out on Simoncelli. I can't imagine them bailing on Spies in favor of Simoncelli unless Spies leaves a lot to be desired this season, based on what we've seen I don't anticipate that. And my personal opinion is that if Rossi wins the Rossi/Lorenzo war at Yamaha, he's not going to get to hand pick his teammate. Yamaha will put their foot down, "isn't it enough that we got rid of an alien for you?"

Problem is that he is by no means there right now. He is not at the top of the time charts, and of course nobody expects that either, it's just that there is no way to know how far he will improve, because that's what he does all the time, he improves, he climbs but no one know for sure where it stops. He took on the SBK challenge and upped his pace and won the championship, he took on the GP challenge and has improved a lot these 5 days but it remains to be seen if he is a true "alien". Others have had optimistic starts, JT where 6th in his first race just to mention one. Look where that got him. We've seen time after time extraordinary talent that goes no-where. I'm not at all suggesting that he will go there just that right now your predictions are probably at a 1:4 - 1:3 in odds and that's not at all bad.

I do not think Yamaha will get rid of one rider to please the other. They'll offer both of them a renewal at the end of 2010 based on their respective results, and let them decide. One of the two will decline, imo. They dont' like each other. Lorenzo was a Biaggi fan...
<

So I assume as a fact that Rossi and Lorenzo will not be in the same team in 2011, that is why I think Yamaha would do well indeed to hire Simoncelli for 2011 if he confirms his qualities with the Gresini Honda.

Last year I heard one passing comment thrown in by Rossi during an interview, he said "... Marco [Simoncelli] did well to go with Gresini, Honda is the best bike for one's first year in MotoGp...".

Rossi has been thinking of Simoncelli as teammate at Yamaha for some time. If it is going to happen or not, it's difficult to tell. If Rossi stays and Lorenzo goes next year, I think it's very probable. Whether in Tech3 or in the factory team, would depend on results compared to Spies...

I don't disagree with you about Rossi wanting Simoncelli as a teammate nor that Yamaha would like to have him in the fold. However, I believe the Yamaha wagon is hitched to Spies and it would take some very impressive results from Simoncelli and a dip in form from Spies to swing Simoncelli to a factory Yamaha in 2011. Now you mention Simoncelli possibly moving to Tech 3, if he has the results impressive enough to warrant Yamaha's attention, do you think he would trade his factory spec Honda and a very good chance at a full factory Honda ride for a slot at Tech 3?

I'm not saying Simoncelli will never ride for Yamaha, all I'm saying is I don't foresee him leaving Honda in the near future.

Hmmmm, Ive been reading the past posts, and I dont want to flog a dead horse or anything but Ben debut race on a yamaha is not as good as James Toselands debut ?
He finished 6th in qatar and qualified 2nd ?

Then look what happened....

Spies is going only one way, back to WSBK.

Need more than a handle bar change to win in GPs ben.

I must admit I doubted Spies at first, but look at what the guy did in WSBK in his rookie year. That's got to count for something.

As far as Toseland's concerned, he never really rode in spectacular fashion while in WSBK. He didn't really decimated the whole field or anything at all.... just barely did enough to win his championships.

I hear you Dion.

Bit early on to say much at all about Spies yet.

He had no real competition in WSBK Bayliss had gone, who else is there?
<

JT beat Bayliss at least
<

Testing is testing ......... to work off that ( Valencia tests ) is not a real good indicator.

If anything the rookies allways look better in testing as they are just there to get used to things, and they tend to want to impress.

Qatar .... we will know how Spies is ..... but meh Curve has him winning races already, even though his times are 30 - 40 seconds off the pace needed to do so.

I think this is just a Curve's masturbation thread, that keeps him occupied til qatar
