In the current standings thats exactly what I believe.

Depends on his body, and whether his crew could match jorge's for set-up now. I think his self belief and willingness to push would be fine back on a yamaha, and he always seemed to have dani pedrosa's measure.

Except on the tracks that Dani whoops arse at.

and at all other tracks Lorenzo has shown he is the man to beat.

Then there's Dovi if it rains ........

Depends whether lorenzo has got better since rossi left yamaha, which he may have; I would be surprised if rossi has lost anything back on a bike which suits him. I don't really think dani has improved, he has had a prolonged relatively injury free period though. Stoner is not going to be there, but it looks a bit as though he needs a bike and tyres which suit him as well.

The Duc is a dog.

One that Stoner won a lot of races on

Edit: I know you'll come back with the 'different years' argument, but do you genuinely believe the Ducati GP11 would have only got one (wet) podium if Casey Stoner had been on it? And for the record I like both riders about the same, i'm not a bopper

BOMBSHELL. Spies: I Have Chosen To Leave Yamaha At the End of the Season

by dean adams

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

American Ben Spies said this morning that he won't be riding for Yamaha in MotoGP next season, that he has made the decision to leave the factory Yamaha team at the end of the 2012 season.

Spies said via email this morning:

Yesterday I made a comment on Twitter to cause a stir. (Today) I'll be more in saying that I have chosen to leave Yamaha after this season for a litany of reasons. I will explain more when I feel it is appropriate. I'm discussing my situation with my sponsors and they are behind me. There are a few people at Yamaha who I hate to leave. And they know who they are. I wish Yamaha the best. I won't make any further comments until the offical announcement comes out.

Spies won the World Superbike championship for Yamaha in 2009--his rookie season in WSBK. That remains Yamaha's only WSBK title. Spies also scored rookie of the year honors in Grand Prix in 2010 and also won the Dutch TT last season. He also nearly won the final Grand Prix of the 2011 season at Valencia, but was beaten to the line by World Champion Casey Stoner.

I think Rossi has a fair chance to be back in the mix on a factory Yamaha, although I do not consider it a forgone conclusion. What I do wonder though, what is going to happen if he jumps on that bike and is barely able to podium on it, or worse, and Lorenzo runs off with the championship? How would Rossi react? How would such a scenario pan out for the interests of Yamaha and Dorna?

Please: Spies, Stoner, Hayden, Dovi, Crutchlow to WSBK racing homolgation specials.

Rossi not winning on Duc proves that machine means a lot more than Rossi fans will ever admit. Dovi deserves that factory M1 NOT Rossi, no amount of rationalizations by those making the case here hold water. VR has been one big fail at Ducati: nothing his fans or experts claimed came to fruition, in fact, quite the opposite! Development king, debunked, best rider ever, debunked, could hardly stay ahead of his "overrated" teammate, and "dastard" satellite. The lesson of 2011 proved this. The lesson of 2013, when Rossi has been bailed out and the sport force feeds us Rossi back to factory equipment will again confirm this fact. Rossi has the titles in the same way Vince McMahon issued them. Give a good rider every possible advantage to win, if thats not enuf, give them special tires (sns), if thats not enuf, make a spec tire. When he ..... up and goes away pouting, prop him back up artificially. Its just a matter of time now before the announcement is made. VR is bigger than the sport, and we all either cheer it or begrudgingly accept it. GP=WWF.

Spies Gone he's pissed off

i bet yam are too with him announcing this ?

i wonder if the Laguna Fans will put 2+2 together and

see this as Rossi getting Ben's seat will Rossi be cheered or Jeered

I'd Jeer his ...

Spies doesn't want to be part of MotoRossi GP anylonger, same as Stoner I suspect.

MotoGP is walking a fine line, 2 or 3 stars and 4 good factory machines does not a World Chamipionship make IMO.

Debunked hu...so Duc has no fault what so ever?..Hell even JB said theyve been waiting for Duc parts since race1 this year, while Honda already pulled out the 2013 machine. Maybe your just mad that Nick will be selling used cars with his dad next year

Dude..it's Rossi's fault. Can't you tell! He's ruined motorcycle racing for everyone!!!

Yes, of course it bothers me that my boy St. Nick is matching his teammate yet has remained relatively invisible. And Yes brotha, "debunked". We heard that Rossi could develop a Vespa into a space shuttle BEFORE he hopped on a Duc. We heard he could ride around any problems Casey was experiencing BEFORE he hopped on a Duc. We heard that if Casey and Rossi were teammates that Rossi would rider circles around him BEFORE he jump on Stoner's bike and could NOT muster even a top 10 in Valencia (after that exact Ducati had podiumed the previous day). If Ducati have done nothing for Rossi in the last 18 months, then Casey and Nicky rode the same bike since day one they jumped on it, were even the overrated Nicky was able to muster a string of dry race 4th. My buddy Mdub has championed that Casey develops backwards (though I've never had the energy to debate him) it would stand to reason Rossi has developed in hyper-worpspeed reverse OR as Rossi fans would like to describe it "Ducati have done nothing for Rossi."
<

Again, 2011 has debunked the belief that Rossi is any better or worse than the top 5 riders in the world, in addition it has proven to those willing and able to see that without his many advantages and exclusive influence in the sport, his title story would have been vastly different. Now he will surely be propped up again. Any race wins or podiums on a factory M1 will be ... hallow as many of his titles in my book in that they are directly from the league script. Dorna have been actively worked as Rossi's personal agent, this is not authentic, and neither have been or will be his results. What separates WWF and GP? Carmelo=McMahon.

I guess Jum's "rationalisation" also must mean that Hayden is ...., & won his championship by fluke?

Hahaha, lame. One thing is certain; the bopper army will be back in full force and will prove to be as unbearable as the neoppers stint on Powerslide.

To address you post, Dorna has ruined it by their blatant favoritism of Rossi and the Spanish/Italian contingent. I think you may understand the difference, but I'm not sure, as your post does seem tongue in cheek and up to now, you’ve seemed fairly neutral. When you have rules made and discarded for individual riders as was the case with the Rookie Rule, then you should understand the situation when the league's top official, Carmelo, acts as the personal lobbying arm, strong arming, horse trading for the purpose of artificially propping (certainly NOT on merit, right, as he stand well below in points of at least three other riders, 2 of which would be rightly in line for the factory M1) up a rider, the result if you care to accept it is an illegitimate state of affairs I've come to the conclusion that if Rossi were given a special bike with an extra 200ccs, Rossi fans would cheer it as perfectly normal, deserving, and legitimate. Let me list it off for you while I'm at it: Saturday Night Special tires, discarded tire war, introduction of spec tire, bailing out of a non competitive bike, ALL of this comes from the league doing Valentino's bidding. I know you boys will go back to the old tune (used effectively by the neoboppers) chalking it up to "Rossi hate", but it’s all there for you too see. I don't expect Rossi fans to actually see it though. And why would they? They didn't see it before his Ducati stint, didn't see it during his Ducati stint, they won't see it into the future whatever that may be.

I guess Jum's "rationalisation" also must mean that Hayden is ...., & won his championship by fluke?

No, I've maintained the 06 title was off script. Every attempt was made and given for Rossi to win that title, even an attack by Nicky's own teammate. After two years of unintended consequences, Dorna would not have it and replaced Rossi SNS by making everybody ride his Bridgestones (this after of course the long standing tire war was magically not longer relevant like this year's rookie rule; Carmelo could not risk his boy not winning another title).

What sucks is that it looks like Ben is going elsewhere, GP is losing credibility by the minute and WE all losing our favorite sport. It makes sense for some things to keep the spectacle growing, but losing talent, losing the fun of the sport in favor of what? It just blows. I hope Rossi stays on the Duc and tries to really make it work and salvage some competition. If he goes back to Yamaha it is admission of defeat and a let down.
