Regardless of what the MRI shows.

American Ben Spies is up and gingerly walking today after crashing out of the Estoril MotoGP race yesterday.

It's been reported globally that Spies dislocated his ankle in the crash. But the fact of the matter is that Spies has yet to be told by any kind of medical professional that he has anything but a sprained ankle from the spill.

Spies will have an MRI this week but says the results of what the magic magnets discern about his ankle are immaterial. "No matter what I will be racing this weekend at Valencia," Spies said today.

I think the pressure of trying to be rookie of the year got to Spies and as a result he pushed too hard and crashed. This is a sign of him cracking under pressure like Rossi clearly did with Lorenzo.

Either that or he just has a sprained ankle

I love Ben's attitude and style

Nice theory, only one thing wrong with it. Spies had the ROY locked up before he crashed, Rossi truly folded under pressure

How about he cracked trying to chase down dovi for 5th place? Guess he lost that one. Too much pressure for him. Guess he'll fail and be no better than Rossi, the other cracker under pressure. Poor bugger, he's in for a tough decade then.

whats happened to the surgery talk ?

some ppl do exaggerate things /tuts

take a top ten,,finish 7th

but the injury it'll prob fook the test up

I was only praising Spies for not doing this kind of thing like a week ago, disappointing. I hope it isn't too serious and doesn't linger to next season or testing.

He simply wants to win.

pressure...really guys? track conditions during the warm up were damp, no prior setup experience on a semi drying track. Ben mentioned that two other riders ahead him almost lost it in the same corner because of lack of heat in the tires....it appears to be a rookie of the year mistake, nothing more.

Good news that he will ride. Lorenzo proved you can ride a gp bike with 2 busted ankles so im sure spies will not be too debilitated with his injury.

Jeez - how dumb is that statement? He went down on a cold tire on the sighting lap. What pressure?
<

BTW - I didn't see the crash initially because my connection kept crashing.

But when I watched it again - I saw Spies get up and walk away and knew

it wasn't serious. Nobody walks away with a dislocated ankle joint.

Texas style and attitude

funny thing is i know he'd hate your ... for being a d-bag.. another Texas thing http://www.powerslide.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/.....gif
<

Are you a Texan too? ........... no way! ....... you seem the exact opposite to Spies and his style and attitude
<

Never seen Spies whinge , whimper and chuck a spatty about all manner of things that aren't idolising of Rossi
<
<
<

yeah he'd definitely punch you in the douch mouth like most of us Texans would
<

And miss, and cop a hiding, as most Texans are better known for their slowness ( even their speech
<
) and the size of their mouths
<
<
<

Though I must admit Spies does not seem like that.

He didn't really walk away, he more like tried to but then sat down again because of the pain. It certainly seemed like his ankle was pretty beat up.

Can't wait to see him in Valencia, always exciting to see him ride a track he already knows.

Yeah Spies tried to walk but sat back down holding his ankle. And two guys with a stretcher arrived.

Isn't a sprained ankle just a mildly dislocated, then relocated, ankle?

It may well have been dislocated till he got back to the medico. Would explain why he sat back down pretty quick as it would not have felt "normal"
