Spiderman Bike. Here is a bike I recently finished painting. It’s a 2002 R6. I bought it from a guy that had used it as a track bike. He had painted it blue and orange, and so I thought of painting it something more along my taste. I’m not a professional painter, but I learned a little something from having to fix my bikes up when I first started to ride. I couldn’t afford to fix the road rash on my bikes every time I went down, so I decided to learn to fix them myself. I have a friend who owns a decal shop who has made decals for a couple of bajabugs I built. He helped me with decals for this project and a company in Italy.
I've painted a few bajabugs and touched up a few bikes, but this is the first replica bike I have ever painted. I painted this bike only from pictures I picked up on the Internet and nothing else, so there are probably some things incorrect. I painted it in my garage and back yard. I picked this theme only because my best friend liked Spiderman. I took over 100 pics during the entire project, but here are a few I thought I'd share with you. Please tell me what you think. Also, if any of you have some history or insight on it, like when and where it was ridden or anything interesting, please let me know. Especially if you know of some video you can refer me to, that would be appreciated.
Here is what it looked like when I bought it. (Orange and Blue)

I began taking it completely apart, down to its bones.

There were some scratches and dents that needed repair.

This is what it looked like as a skeleton.

Painting the upper fairing in my garage.
864:attachment]
I first painted the blue, then the red. This is what it looked like before I unwrapped the fairing. The blue is under the wrapping.

This is the upper fairing without the decals. (This is called basecoat which is before decals and clearcoats are applied.)

This is the tail section. Here you see the beginings of the honeycomb decals. This was the most difficult part of the project because the decals are very thin and made of a metalic material (as oppose to vinyl) which does not contour to the curves of the fairing and tank. So much of it was done extremely tediously in parts.

The center web is what guides the rest of the web placements and was started at the nose. I used a surgical scalpel because it was the only thing I could find that would make the finest cuts.

Here is webbing was applied on the side of the fairing.

Here is the finished webbing on the side. Here you can see more of the detail work of the honeycomb as well.

Here is a front view of the bike in my back yard. (Notice the little Spiderman crawling on the visor).
871:attachment]
Here is a rear view. Check out the Vance and Hindes pipe.

Spiderman Bike (Marco Melandri Replica) This is the final product. What do you think?
873:attachment]
This is not a show bike, so it gets its fair share of canyon rides. Check out the helmet, it got the same decal and paint treatment.
874:attachment]
At the canyon.
875:attachment]
This is a picture of the actual MotoGP bike. (What do you think; did I come close to the real deal? (minus the horsepower).
876:attachment]
This is what happended to the real bike. I heard he was gonna auction off the fairings to charity but it got thrashed.
877:attachment]
This is what I did with the extra paint and decals. What do you think?
878:attachment]
I leave you with the final product. Spiderman Bike.
