i understood that "IF" Stoner wins it at Motegi...Rossi only needs a 4th for the title.

think Rossi needs 14 points to be sure a fourth in motegi nearly does it

if Rossi scores 13 points for a fourth in motegi and then he gets no more points this season
he will have 300 points and 7 race wins

if Casey wins all the remaining races (4) he will have 300 points
BUT
this will give Casey 8 wins this season and Rossi 7
Casey takes the title on count back the number of race wins 8 to 7
so Rossi needs 14 points to be sure of the title so 3rd or better and he can take a early holiday and leave the rest too it.

but rossi would have to score no points in the remaining 4 races and stoner win all 4 , is that right ?

yep roger basics Rossi needs 14 or more points from the next 4 races to be sure of the title
this will be less if Casey dont win the 4 races that are left.
e.g. if Casey comes second in motegi.Rossi only needs 8 points for the title from the 4 races that are left.
IMO.Casey now knows hes got to win the next 4 races to have any chance of the title
Pressure!!.
he will choke again trying for the 4 wins

OH COME ON..... Stoner already knows his championship run is over. Why do you think he agreed with how the race was stopped, and how he said he didn't push 100%???? He gave up already, which is somewhat reasonable given Rossi's championship lead going into the race. Stoner's racing spirit has been broken by Rossi.... right now Casey needs to recover and prepare himself for next year, that is the best he can do. He needs to make a positive out of this year and finish on top of Rossi in the following last few races to give him a boost of confidence for next year.

So for whatever reason, ss56 says for next year, pigeon thinks he can still win, Stoner has to post up some top results. Let's see if he can...

Stoner was quoted after Misano (from memory) as saying that the championship was over and that he was looking to next year, so it is safe to say that he had already conceded before Indianapolis (which given the points differential was well realistic).

In honesty and IMO, Rossi had this sewn up absolutely when he got the 50 point lead purely because he had already had his one (per year) failure at Assen and has been way to consistent (along with Yamaha) in DNF terms (it doesn't happen).

The real battle is whether Stoner will beat Pedrosa for second, or even more importantly whether West can beat Hopkins (currently both on 41 points).

i reckon he knows theres no way he will be #1 this season but he must now worry about pedro who is only 7 point's behind him. stoner and pedro are fighting for the #2. can you imagine all the excuses that will come from these 2

To be quite honest Rog, there is only one champion and this year it's Vale.
Nobody remembers who come second or 3rd. I don't see Casey putting a #2 on his bike like Dani did this year, do you? I think Casey will probably push like hell in his home GP, but I would think he would be looking to finish the season now and have his surgery and be ready for 2009.
Will be interesting to see how the carbon fibre frame performs. From what I can gather Nicky will get to ride it right after Valencia. I hope he loves the thing.

no i dont to be honest mate but you must remember there is quite a bit of history between dani and casey and i dont think either will want the #3 .

lo ppls
no i'm not saying Casey's going to win this years title or even have a chance it's gone bar a act of god
i'm just saying as the 07 champ and his home race coming up.i feel he will be going even harder to close the gap on Rossi by winning the last four races.and leave his "Mark" ready for next year
this will be putting more pressure on himself.and it could go pear shaped a fall a crash ?
and as roger says with Pedrobot not far behind Casey could end up third at the end of the season.

IMO stoners motivation will not be to beat pedrosa to 2nd this year, it will be to win races.
just like vale, casey is not really interested in 2nd or 3rd, he only wants one finishing spot. since that is gone, its now groundwork time for 2009.

Now he's got Hayden to worry about too. Get it together Casey and prove to the skeptics that you've got a real and lasting talent. Also wouldn't hurt if you worked with a publicist in the off season.
