I have little doubt that Jumkie is, at this very moment, slaving away - composing one of his epic 5 page retorts. His "I'm retiring from the field of battle" is a transparent ploy to buy time.

omg, when jumkie was new here, he was basically an enemy of the state
<
matt and i used to gang up on him and we'd cook plots over msn. when he goes quiet, we'd imagine him hunched over tons of books, and his handy dictionary by his side. then we'll time how long it'll take him to construct his next mile-long posts

So here we have Rossi, getting tires made especially for him, for years, yes YEARS. And just one year they change the rules, he can’t get his special tires, and just like that, he can’t win the championship. MAKES YOU WONDER JUST HOW VALID THE OTHER YEARS OF TITLES WERE, eh?

Holy ....! Have you boarded up your windows and doors and the fireplace?

Special tyre for Rossi… Rossi = God on two wheels. So Special tyre for Rossi. If he was just a mere mortal, would not be special. He has the ability to develop different bikes and tyres. If I had been Michelin I would have chosen Rossi. Now that Bridgestone realize this too, I would want Rossi input in development. Wait, it already happened… But I thought Ducati / Bridgestone had an on going ‘Partner / Development’ agreement. Rossi just shredded it apart. Good stuff.

I insist, we’re just a bunch of stubborn mules!

And I'm sure the Bridgestone and Michelin associations with Rossi had absolutely nothing to do with marketing. Absolutely 100 percent about his development. All that data and success Bridgestone collected with Ducati and Stoner? Throw it out the window, Rossi will make the tires much better. It makes loads of sense...
<

Does it matter that we didn't know. Everyone else knew before the time. Rossi may have inspected the tyre cause he was surprised it lasted as long as it did. Now if he was on the same as everyone else and his nearest rivals tyres were fing up and not because of the bike or the rider then Id be thinking he'd got bridgestone in his back pocket.

Am i just daft saying does it really matter about a little white stripe??

Me cause if they were able how come it hasn't been televised resently or even in the last 20years when technology has gotten a million times better eh!? eh!? eh!?

They should just have a tire freeze, instead of developing more and more faster tires. I mean, wasn't the whole point of going to 800cc's was to slow the bike down because the speeds they were traveling in were supposedly too dangerous? And yet they continue to develop faster and faster tires to the point where they are making the 990's look pale in comparison to the 800's in terms of lap times.

Freeze development on the tires, that forces the bike manufacturers to build their machines around it. Tires right now are safe enough to be able to do that. If a rider complains about lack of grip in tires, then they should change their riding style to suit the bike...... it doesn't matter how sticky the tires get, racers will always push past the limits and crash anyways.

So I take it you were not one of the lucky ones to have got a government cheese loaf? It came from the moon you know. How else could they have given away so much cheese? Obviously the answer is, they brought it back from the moon.

Both of you make valid points. Bridgestone stood to gain marketing-wise by
virtue of a relatively unknown Stoner in 2007 on a bike that had never won
a GP championship.

On the other hand they had lots more to gain from the much greater notoriety
of Rossi.

No doubt they learned a lot from Stoner's data - but really, how much of it
will translate usefully to the street rider market? The Ducati market besides
- is relatively limited.

On the other hand - the M1 is (I'd speculate) exponentially more similar to
the R1 and if there's any real-world transfer of GP tire tech to be derived
then the info from Rossi's development - would have a much wider range
of usefullness for the street bike tire market

Really, I'm in a truce at the moment. We have had some UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES in the Rossi Mindless push back campaign (reference supershit56, pinks, etal posts). I leave it to the Stoner fans to clean up the mess. Besides, I have an appointment with Stuart Smalley. I'm on a steady diet of self affirmations: <looks in the mirror>. "You're Good Enough, You're Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like You!" (Few will get the joke, but for those that do...)

For all of the U.S.'s sake he better use them to the best of his ability. Unfortunatly smarts doesn't always account for making the best decisions based on the ideals of the constitution. If he has an adgenda that he wants to persue then his smarts may take us along with him down a road we may not want to go down. All from his brain on brains. Not impressed.
