The press release was incredibly badly written. Or rather, badly translated, as it wasn't made clear until the 3rd paragraph that his was for Italy, and even then there was lots of room for doubt...

pfft give it time people its a cert to happen

$ky are fleecing the Italian And German TV market all ready Never mind what they have done to the UK TV Anything they set there minds on they get it

Football,Golf,Cricket, etc etc they outbid for

any good TV prog thats Shown on public channels they out bid every fooker to get the TV rights for it onto there shitform

When the BBC Deal runs out lets see who get live rights to the motogp race then,? Eurosport these days seem happy with how the deal works now

(no live motogp race)

maybe Toby knows the score where TV Coverage of motogp is going now he's signed up to do BTCC commentary and any clash with the motogp rounds.the motogp commentary takes a back seat,

In Germany Sport1 channel show motogp i bet $ky Germany will outbid them when there coverage is up for renewal

I FOR ONE WONT EVER PAY $KY UK TO WATCH ANY MOTORBIKE RACING,IN FACT I DONT PAY THEM ANYTHING FOR ANY OF THERE PRODUCTS PERIOD

I have access to Freesat freesatsky and freeview + i have a satellite kit and can get loads of free TV from around Europe and the middle east

if gives me sports1 Motogp FP Sessions WSBK Races etc all for free

plus loads of other stuff like Eurosport free + al jazerra sports chans

Pigeon you are bang on the money!

I agree with your post totally.

Man we live so close, Do you fancy hooking up for a beer?

The interesting bit in this story is that Sky Italia did not outbid anybody, but it was Mediaset (who have uninterruptedly purchased the MotoGP rights for Italy since 2002) who gave up on Dorna's proposal and opted for investing in the WSBK rights instead...

Thats cos Rossi is going there.

Thats cos Rossi is going there.

I agree with this.

Didn't Rossi say how much he enjoyed watchin' the WSBK race last weekend or somethin'? Now, Italian T.V wanna ditch MotoGp. Something is definately going on here...Rossi can't win in MotoGP anymore, so it appears they're gonna switch him over to WSBK so all the Italians can watch their boy win again (albeit, in a lesser class). The Italian media will pump up WSBK as the biggest and baddest series of them all. And all the fans will get a chance to live in the past by seeing their boy on the podium again. To help this transition run smoothly, Motogp will be conveniently erased from the memory of the Italian psyche. Having their number one boy on the top step again will help stimulate a golden opportunity for corporate Italy to profit from all those millions and millions of Euros from advertising etc once again. There, problem solved!

However, there is one small snag... What if Vale gets beaten in WSBK?

If melandry can do why not Rossi. Besides, WSBK has Max Mad too, they are all italians. WSBK always been more popular than MotoGP in Italy anyway if not for Rossi and Biaggi.

IRossi has done the Melandry in MotoGP and will do the Melandry in WSBK too -winning the championship in the 2nd or 3rd year.

He would win it in the first year. He is much better than melandri or biaggi.

i reckon ducati will wait another couple of races/chassis/engines upgrades to see whether they can get something out of rossi after all

if not it would be the perfect time to jump ship. if i was in rossis shoes i'd take the chance to dominate wsbk and max with the new 1199 over being midpack with a satellite bike /factory duc ride every time. after all its not like ducati wouldn't pay him good, rossi winning wsbk on a bike you can buy would be a huge deal

+ he could wrap up another couple of championships(highly unlikely in gps) to match ago, i firmly believe nobody in wsbk is anywhere near rossis level

edit : michaelm beat me to it

It's the only way Rossi will win a championship on a Ducati.

Weak arguments, because Sky Italia caters to Italian audiences too.

In Italy you have the same situation regarding Rossi as elsewhere: some love him, some hate him.

In general, people care more for Ducati than for Rossi (and that's right).

The thinking at MediaSet was probably different: with MotoGP bikes limited to 15,000 rpm, and only three manufacturers competing, what will really be the best series in the next few years, the so-called prototypes or the so-called superbikes?

I keep thinking we'll gradually go towards a merge of the two series. They are too similar, and a world in recession cannot really afford two. I only hope they keep the best name for the unified series: World Superbike has always been the best name, by miles -- MotoGP (as a name) sucks big time.

It's the only way Rossi will win a championship on a Ducati.

that goes without saying, i was more referring to the highly unlikely chances of him winning the championship on a satellite bike.

factory duc or satellite honda/yamaha, another race victory is really the best he can hope for
