Silly season 2007

I think Vermeulens lack of experience of the tracks on the Motogp calendar is letting him down. I could be wrong but of the 11 races so far this year he's only raced at 5 of them prior to moving full time to Motogp.

Losail Qualified 13th, finished 7th.

Istanbul Qualified 9th, finished 11th after been taken out of it on the first lap by O.J., but set the fastest lap of the race on the penultimate lap.

Assen Qualified pole, finished 16th after been taken out of it by DePuniet.

Donnington Qualified 12th, finished 3rd.

Laguna Seca Qualified 3rd, finished 2nd.

I figure by next year he should have learned enough to be competitive at most of the tracks.

In the wet the fact that the lines and braking points are so different that prior experience of the track doesn’t count for as much, it’s more down to bike control which probably helped him to the win in LeMans.

My point is that fast in wet does not mean that you are automatically championship material. A few wet wether specialists are able to take it over to dry, and thats most of the CS contenders.

On the other hand, there are very fast riders that sucks in rain. Both Hayden and Pedrosa had a problem with wet races. Hayden took his crash course in front of the 2006 season and pedrobot in front of 2007.
They are both pretty fast on wet now, proving that it is a different skill from dry, and that it can be learned, and as we see in those two, most fast (dry race) riders have the untrained skills underneath.
