The bike would have to be able to make it back across the line under its own power and he would keep his position
A hypothetical question on scoring. What if Lorenzo had gone down, then the red flag came out 2 corners later. Would he have been scored from the previous full lap and kept second..

Damn, now I'm reading on twitter that Spies is out of Oz. Tell him they red flagged it too soon.

So who are they likely to put on his bike for the next race? It's a shame he's out, even from what little I've seen though he's had some really bad luck recently hasn't he?

Two separate issues.

1. Should have race been stopped?

2. Did race direction take their cue from Lorenzo?

Peeps grandstanding on the first question, particularly those who think race direction is without bias in regards to the real controversy of the timing, which is after all, the point.

Might I suggest sir stop watching the sport? Sir clearly feels that the sport of motorcycle racing is without merit and run entirely according to the commands of its leaders. Perhaps sir would prefer to watch cricket instead?

IMO, the decision was 100% correct and were the camera not on Lorenzo at the time then we would not be discussing this or trying to create a conspiracy theory when in all likelihood there is no conspiracy.

Again all IMO (and maybe Krop can throw something in here) but I was actually surprised that they left it that long to call the Red Flags as given the number of fallers around laps 12 - 13 the race could have been called at that stage. But at the same time I was wondering if Race Control were holding out simply to ensure that they were in a position to declare the race as having run a sufficient distance were they not able to restart (Krop feel free to add thoughts).

In addition, I do wonder (but doubt that it played any large role) whether the events of 2011 played a part in trying to ensure that the crowd did get to see a level of race as for some time last year the crowd were unknowing oft he situation and did strongly vent disapproval. Which leads to the reason I do believe the decision to be right as in those conditions it is luck as to whether someone suffers a fall as the wet weather when pooled on the track takes away any semblance of control and we (none of us) want riders to fall, nor championships to be decided by the uncontrollable.

Good decision for once from the tower.

It's not the number of fallers that count, it's the situation on the ground, visibility (big one that) track conditions, etc. As the race has to be restarted anyway, no point in letting it go on to 2/3 distance, might as well red flag it when necessary.

I think so, but we will never know that. However one thing we know 100% for sure: if it had been Rossi lifting his finger to the sky and having the race stopped next lap just in time

That is incorrect

If Rossi lifted his finger And pointed towards the sky the heavens would have opened up and the rain would have subsided.

Right. But in that case some would have accused Zeus of being an accomplice in the unending pro-Rossi conspiracy...

Factory Yamaha team claim it is too short notice for a substitute rider, Ben has been plagued with bad luck all season.

No 'conspiracy' buddy. Zeus: Bopper FACT.

(Zeus, also gay, little known fact).

Good call Cliche. 100% agree.

i watch maybe 2 AMA races a year but hayes really shines through as the top dog to me. also his wild card gp performance was nothing to be ashamed of, he did really well IMO.he may not be a rea but he's still quite good

Someone else in this thread had posted that it should be the leader sending a signal saying maybe things should be stopped. Why shouldnt it be any rider that feels maybe its unsafe and things should be stopped.

I know he threw his hand up earlier as well but Lornezo almost went down in the same spot that Crutchlow and De Puniet had. Riders were dropping like flies anyway and tbh I was saying out loud to myself they were going to red flag it as all these riders started dropping.

Dont get me wrong I would love nothing more than a small points gap for the last two races to make things excitng, but I feel like it was the right call from race direction
