Rossi's Legacy Tainted

Comparing 2011 development with 2010 - Ducati achieved zilch with the bike, Yamaha had some improvement, Honda developed a rocket-ship for their 2 top riders and supporting starters.

Honda developed a better gearbox. Ducati has already developed the same. Rossi should in theory be one second a lap faster than Stoner was last year.

Look at where Vale was when JB was away, completely lost !

Even after all team red would have learnt from JB all year was not able to get Rossi where he wanted to be.

So he not only needs the bike to be absolutely perfect but JB needs to be in his corner wiping his brow.

When JB left yamaha there was a lot of talk over team Jorge's ability in moving forward without JB's indirect insight.

Determination, raw ability and granted a decent bike has put Jorge in the mix each Race. Without JB.

Casey winning on the lemon (Duc) and winning on the Honda. Without JB.

I dont know is Rossi's legacy tainted, ?????

And where does this leave Doohan's legacy?

Rossi's legacy will be just fine.

As is Doohan's...

I'm trying to understand the logic of this post, and how someone can possibly dream up such consistently wrong data that is used in that logic ...........

all I can see is a vision of a stuffed teddy bear
<

Its not even talking! its just a stuffed teddy bear
<

Stoner, the best rider of the 800cc era, did so on the Ducati. You don't feel that perhaps your data may be flawed
<

Now he is on Honda he has become the best rider since he has been in motogp ( 2006 to now ), perhaps you can credit the Honda with this but it doesn't detract from the fact that nobody did as well as Stoner on the Ducati, even when Rossi was on the Yam.

nobody did better than stoner on the ducati, even when rossi was on the yam? must be moron logic. 'cuz only a moron would take stoner's 23 wins/8 2nds/42 podiums/ONE title over rossi's 21 wins/15 2nds/47 podiums/TWO titles. nevermind that rossi finished ahead of stoner 3 of the 4 years. so yeah, you're right, rossi didn't do as well as stoner in those four years, he did BETTER. not taking anything away from stoner. this is his time now. the title is his to lose. but don't make illogical claims, regardless of who you're referring to! LMFAO!!!

When Melandri went to Ducati i thought he's a talented rider, he will do well on it !

When Nicky turned up with his dirt track back ground i also thought this could work !

And as much as it pains me to say, when precious Vale the great one signed up every body in the motor sport world thought ok we are constantly reminded of what a talent he is he will no doubt take the bike to a new level !

Zzzzzz can someone wake me when this phenomina takes place.

If Vale is truly the best of the best he would have mastered the Duc first few rides out, not just mixing it with the top 3 but winning.

If he truly is a "better rider" than Casey then why isnt he performing better ?

Dont tell me the bike sux, we know this, melandri knows this, Nicky sure as .... knows this and Casey worked that out first ride after getting off a Honda. Casey had the talent to ride through the pain of an ill handling bike.

Vale is a princess who has succesfully lowered his $ worth in the sport with this failed venture. Sure he's a good rider but no better than Melandri or Nicky, and certainly falls well below Caseys level of skill.

For the record im not a one eyed Stoner fan. I actually think Dani and Jorge are talented riders and thoroughly enjoy watching Jorge, Dani and Casey do battle.

Cheers bring on the next race..

The fact that its even being discussed means that to some degree, yes, his legacy has been tainted. For the diehard Rossi fan, nothing will taint his legacy, but they will have to answer the questions and defend the legacy for years to come. Up until this year, even the detractors like Jum and myself did not deny the accomplishments, even though we knew they were a little skewed. We mostly just like yanking the strings of the most ardent supporters because they are so, well, ardent. Plus there was some payback for the way Nicky was treated at the end of 06 and all through 07.

So any discussion must have some truth in it if those questions are being asked? Okay.

Povol is Communist homosexual transvestite? Discuss.

It must be true if I'm talking about it, right?

There is no truth to a legacy, it is an ever enduring opinion

Clearly maturity is not a pre requisite for being a one eyed Rossi fan.....

Oi enough of that crap. Povol is no communist

Well it certainly isn't apparent in any of your posts.

Firstly i'm flattered that you read them talpa and forgive me i'm green when it comes to forum posting ettiquette...

Would it be more intelligent of me to dribble about technical inadequacies of ducati and their R & D or should i post endless dribble about why Bridgestone aren't working towards Ducati's best interests or can i simply sum it all up by saying Rossi aint all that special...

Just my opinion mate.

Thanks again for reading, cheers

well, this is the type of discussion that our more intellegent and mature members tend to have, I'm not saying this is me at all. However the only real credible source we have is in agreement with the rubber issues being discussed.......as it is a motogp forum this kind of discussion is welcome by most, Stoner fanboys like yourself tend to post the same old .... and it isn't mature nor interesting.....

Just my opinion.

Rossi legacy will not significantly suffer at all from his Ducati performances, but Stoner's legacy will be very positively effected. If you crash a truck into a small car the car changes shape much more than the truck. Rossi's legacy is like a truck, it will take something huge to smash it up. Stoner's legacy is much smaller so far, so it is much more liable to change dramtically due to the hindsight offered by current events.

im not going any where talpa. So either move on or continue to frustrate yourself defending your boy #46.

So im guessing fanboy is a term of endearment referring to people who support certain riders, well then im a Jorge fanboy, Dani fanboy, Edwards fanboy, Stoner fanboy, and finally if Hayden keeps showing up your #46 im a massive Hayden fanboy.

Hang in there sunshine plenty more .... to come, cant wait for next race.......

Tom that was a good way to explain it. Only thing I could add is that for a lot of champions the legacy comes from winning against the odds. Enter Mick Doohan, the image thats burnt into my memory is seeing him hobble out of hospital for the last race in 92 to try and win the title. Even Rainey, no ..... himself said he was amazed to see Doohan trying to ride in that condition. And he nearly did it. Then Doohan went on to 5 titles with said leg and fused ankle? So Doohan overcame what many thought impossible. Rossi has hit the first major obstacle that I can remember in his whole career and I bet he'd love to be able to write his biography with a happy ending. Winning on the Ducati removes all doubt.
