What a great story for me to bow out of this forum on.

Don't let the .......s grind you down etc.

I am still inclined to think he will retire if he wins the championship next year as you may have been implying. He sounds quite feisty though; already starting mind games with stoner

.

I don't know if Valentino has that kind of long-term commitment in him. No offense but reliable/dependable is not what I think of when I think of Valentino. He seems to be more passionate, impulsive, and an unsinkable raw talent. It will be interesting to see what happens to him as the raw talent part begins to wane.

Glad to hear it though. Dorna are probably going to subsidize a big portion of the new 30 million dollar contract he's going to sign.

Yea right. So after having been spreading rumors about him going to WRC or Formula 1 for the last two years, now he states he has never considered leaving MotoGP.

What an attention whore...

i said on the forum recently that i thought valentino would like to sign off when he has 10 WC'S or atleast thats the figure he has in his head, and i think he can do it for sure for sure lol, i think hes said 5 years because he wants to see how it pans out with yamaha's performance, if this doesnt come to lite i think he will use the last 2-3 to ride for another team.

Yeah, I agree with that. But he has to be very, very good to get 5 more titles in five years. He could do it - of course he could, it's Valentino Rossi we're talking about
<
, but Hayden and Stoner both beat him these last two seasons, so someone like Lorenzo might be a bit more competition.

And it won't be the same when Rossi leaves
<

I actually missed having Sete Gibernau in this season. I didn't really like him that much, but the tension and conflict between him and Vale made it better because you knew that one of them was out there to beat the other, whether or not that was for first place or somewhere lower down.

If he doesnt win next year,i dont see him ever winning it again. This is all mind games trying to get Casey to push to hard at the beginning of next year and bin it in the first race.Casey is human and he has to be wondering just a little bit if it was the tires. If he does something stupid early, self doubt could come knocking.Winning the first race is going to be huge for either rider. If Rossi wins and gets confidence, thats usually bad news for the rest of the field. If Casy wins the first race,it will erase any self doubt and he can relax which could be bad news for the rest of the field.

Well not really because there's still the rest of the season to go. If Rossi comes second and Casey has to work really hard to get first, then Casey's not going to relax. He will be up all night wondering what Valentino will do next

I'm glad that he's stay'n. Even if he is your least favorite rider, you have to give the guy credit for making you sit on the edge of your seat.

All this from Rossi's much expected declaration to stay in MotoGp for several years. I'm impressed, alltough I have no idea how one is wired to draw those conclustions.
And I'm not "protecting" Rossi. I'm fully aware of his mindgames and it's actually one of the resons for my respect for the guy, I just fail to see how this is "all about mind games".

Rossi not planning to retire soon

By Michele Lostia and Pablo Elizalde Wednesday, December 12th 2007, 13:01 GMT

Seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi says he is planning to stay in MotoGP for at least five more years, rubbishing suggestions that he plans to retire soon.

"It's 100 percent certain I will race in 2009, unless I win every race next year," the Italian told Motosprint magazine.

"I've never considered quitting, otherwise I would have done that in 2006 and maybe I would have gone to Formula One. But I didn't, and it's not just for one or two years.

"I'm staying, I hope, for at least five years."

The 28-year-old Italian has a year of his Yamaha contract left to run and will be hoping to bounce back in 2008 following a disappointing 2007 season.

Rossi won just four races to champion Casey Stoner's 10, and the Yamaha rider went on to finish in third place in the standings behind the Australian and Honda's Dani Pedrosa.

The five-time MotoGP champion admits it has been tough watching Stoner being the fastest rider on track.

"For sure this hasn't been one of my best seasons," he added. "It's been a tough year, different from the previous one when I was often the fastest but I lost through mistakes and bad luck. This year Stoner has always been quicker than us, bar a few exceptions.

"It's been tough. Casey has gone quick and hasn't made mistakes, and that's been a surprise, because we knew already he was quick. He fully deserves the title. We will try to challenge him in 2008."

Motogp needs Rossi still... no one has come along yet with any swagger.

Thats if you like it like it was ..... some prefer it for the racing and riding moreso than "the show" and spectacle. To Rossi's Credit he was still a darn good rider at his best. I must admit though for folk like me who liked to see him "riding" the "show" was merely a distraction ......
