They "stole the championship" from him in his delusional reality.

Valentino Rossi says he still draws motivation from the events of last year’s controversial MotoGP title battle, in which he believes an eighth premier class crown was "stolen" from him.

Rossi admitted in an official MotoGP website interview earlier this month that the events of 2015 - when the Italian accused rivals Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo of working together to deny him the championship - were having a knock-on effect on his performance this season.

However, in an interview with BT Sport, the 37-year-old Italian said that the defeat is also supplying him with extra motivation to succeed as he reaches the home stretch of his top-line career.

Rossi also said he felt Marquez's actions in the final three races of the season at Phillip Island, Sepang and Valencia detracted from Lorenzo's achievement in securing his third premier class title.

Asked if Lorenzo and Marquez stole his championship, Rossi said: “First of all, it’s very clear they stole the championship, and in a very bad way. In a way that nobody expected, so it was very bad.

“I did a very good season with a lot of points, 320 points. And nine [times] out of 10 you win the championship.

“But from one side you have a great and fantastic year from Lorenzo, who also respond to me, race by race, point by point. Incredible.

“Before the last three races he deserved the championship for sure, because he won two races more than me.

"But what happened in the last three [races] was unbelievable. The behaviour of Marquez was embarrassing. I think this takes out some value also from the championship of Lorenzo."

He added: “So, for this reason, it’s very important to take this extra power and extra motivation.

"Because the first reaction is [to be] angry. Nervous. Make mistakes. Become also more dangerous. Because you still have something still open with the other guys. But the difficulty is to modify this into positive power.”

Rossi still drawing motivation from ?stolen? 2015 title

Rossi fan here but saying title was stolen is out of order. It doesn't do him any favours. Let it go, Vale, let it go.

Just watched the interview with Suzi Perry on btsport. Obviously, in his wee world, he did nothing wrong at all.

I wish he'd stfu about it, his worst mistake ever and he needs to let go.

He clearly never had any intention of letting go of it. It's going to become his built-in excuse for being unable to get that 8th title.

How dare you JPS!!! Tenth!!! - as well you should know by now.

GP is the only major sport I've seen that counts lesser titles.

For as ...... up as F1 is these days, they don't count GP2 titles, F3 titles, or whatever else towards the running tally of world championships.

Did you notice immediately after when observing how this has divided opinion in the paddock the presentation team mentioned that not all journalists backed Rossi - naming Oxley as one of the few to call him out at the time and express the view that Marquez was not in the wrong. As recall this was his view in respect of both PI and Sepang.

Because in the old days the best riders would compete in the lower capacity classes as well as the 500cc class, that only really started to change in the 70's with the last dual world champion being 1985 as the smaller bikes became classes to nurture younger riders on their way to the premier class.

Whatever helps him sleep at night. Him being within 5 points of Lorenzo was a ....... miracle that he should be thankful for considering how dominant Lorenzo's numbers were over his. Lorenzo was the superior performer and his mistakes were the only reason Rossi was in play. Get over it you whiney little ......

****still to come *** Rossi at Motegi this year

"I think at Aragon Lorenzo was hanging back, and then overtook me and is messing with my championship with Marquez"

Silly ..... Desperate man, all the money he has at his age and yet he pathetically tries to win a 8th title to satisfy his ego, then blames everyone else when it doesn't happen

:(All you lot whinging like Rossi :( :redcard:

Yes how the tables have turned from the days of copious whinging about Stoner's whinging.

I think you perhaps overlook that Rossi continues to repeat allegations that his 2 major opponents are cheats, fairly unprecedented in the annals of motogp whinging to my knowledge.

He copped a lot of flak and not much support in the comments on the article which was linked.

I am actually coming to appreciate if not the views of Rossi fanboys the perspective of his true fans like DB, and J4rn0 when he still posted.

VR fairly clearly does not have much perspective on all this and probably isn't just being manipulative and malicious because he can be or because it is his habit. I think he does risk his reputation now as DB says and whatever else he may be he is an all time great as a rider and everyone would have to acknowledge he is riding remarkably well even now if this controversy was absent.
