Seventimes world champion Valentino Rossi has been connected with a potential transfer to kawasaki as soon as the upcoming season is over, and according to rumours kawasaki is willing to pay 72 milion euro's.
According the the German Motorsport Aktuell, kawasaki has the intention to get Valentino Rossi for the next season with a contract of 72 mil per season. Recently Kawasaki's competitionmanager Michael Bartholomy said that the Japanese fabricant wants to fight for the worldtitle in 2009, and that 2008 will be the transition year. Could this be the plan of the Belgian, contracting Valentino Rossi?
Valentino is bound to his contract with Yamaha this upcoming season, but is free to go and ride where ever he wants after it. That's why 'The Doctor' is connected to a transfer to Ducati before because it's also a bit of a dream for the Italian to win the championship with an Italian machine.

Time will tell if this rumour is true, but to us racesport people 72 mil seems to be a bit of an overstatement.

what do you all think?! a bit early to have these kinds of rumours, isn't it. and 72 mil, my god that's a HUGE amound of money. can't be true, right???????

that would be a dream come true for me. 90% of the bikes ive owned were kwakers and to have the doctor ride one and mabe even win a championship on one would be the icing on the cake.

think of all the .... flying about just because he change rubber, wonder what our anti rossi fans will say if he does switch team.

AMAZING... When money talks ¡¡¡

well just remember he took a huge pay cut when he left aprillia to go to honda, altho im sure he could do with some extra money now because the tax man is fleecing him, i think its more about the challenge with rossi than the money.

72 million! Grief!

Reading Rossi's autobiography, he put down Ducati. Compared it to Honda, in the way they deal with riders. He would have been there instead of Yamaha if not for that hard feel the team left with.

i read he considered ducati but went to yam because of the amount of pr ducati expect from there riders.

Is it April already? You'd have to be a fool to believe this stupid .....

well i think rossi will be back at honda for 2009/10, i would truly love to see him on a kawasaki though, if he won on it then it would be the ultimate achievement, plus it would put most of you maggots back in your seat.

I heard about it, but the offer is 72 millions for a 4 years contract - not per season!
<

They also are reported to offer him almost total freedom in running 'his' team (something very tempting for Rossi).

The real issue is,, does yellow go with green? Brazilians say yes

If this rumour has any truth in it then Hopper should be very hopping angry and a bit scared......

Angry and scared since it would signal Kawasaki don't put much faith in Hopkins ability to deliver wins, podiums, future bike development and bike sales....

I am sure Red Bull / Monster would hugely interest in gaining Rossi as a face...

I'm with you on this one Jumkie.
But then again, Nicky is going to AMA in 09.

I suppose that leaves a vacant seat... Hmmmm.......

This publication has been reading my posts. I'm the one who says tongue and cheek that Rossi should go to Kwaka in 2009, because the have an I-4 with pneumatics and Hopper is on a one year contract.

This is just a hilarious follow up, to the more hilarious press release where Kawi said they were aiming for the championship in 2009.

I hope its true.

Corr, thanks man. I needed something hilarious to jump start me into the weekend. Its been a tough week at work and sometimes the weekend is the only way to keep what little sanity I still have.

Hahaha, yeah, I look forward to that headline buddy.

well if this rumor would have surface prior to Valentino's Tax problems I would have said there would be NO WAY he would go to Kawi. Now that he owes a boat load of cash I would say if he doesn't win the championship this season he very well could go for the big payday.
Otherwise I think he would stick with the big three...Yamaha, Ducati or Honda.

How could Kawasaki afford that... they are not even the number 1 in sales and don't generate much income from bike sponsorship.

it's true that the motorcycle part of kawasaki is smaller than honda yamaha suzuki but kawasaki heavy industries is huge. other than motorcycles and cars they also manufacture ships, industrial plants, tractors, trains, small engines, and aerospace equipment (including military aircraft). Subcontract work on jet aircraft (including jumbo jets) has been done for Boeing, Embraer, and Bombardier.

they can afford rossi if they want him.
