An absolute legend.
The only man to ever win both the 500cc world championship and the Formula 1 world championship. Still gives me chills to think about the enormity of that feat.
He won 7 motorcycle world championships that saw three 350cc championship wins and five 500cc world championship wins. He won the 350cc and 500cc championships in 1958, 1959, and 1960. This included multiple Isle of Man TT wins in both classes for MV Agusta. He would of course go on to win the Formula 1 World Championship in 1964 driving for Ferrari. But his motorcycle achievements alone are stunning.
RIP John, you'll be missed.
