I raced MX when I was in my teens, just ride for the love and fun these days

I try and stay away from the bike if I'm in a foul mood, imo its dangerous(more so than usual) to go out for a ride to blow off steam after an aruguement, if your head is clouded your not at optium focus and you can find youself in a trouble very easy before you realise it.
Biking is a great if you want to get away from things, when your eye is dialed in and your at one with it all, you can forget about the kids/wife/bills and all the BS that goes with it for that X amount of time. But when I'm angry about something I find it harder to push it to the back of my mind and focus on all the hidden dangers that present themself when out on the road, I don't want to sound like a kill joy but if your going out on your bike angry, make sure its on a track

I live just minutes from the gap and rode it many years before it got internet popular. You just have to know the cops schedule and be there when there not.Monday thru Thursday is not bad, usually 1 cop and he or she is just there to scare the tourons.Weekend is the obviuos bad time but if you get up early [6am] you can get 6-7 good runs in and head home before the carnage starts.Where are you located,i wouldnt mind getting together for a ride.

Thats exactly why it soothes me.When i ride, its 1000% concentration and i forget everything that made me have a bad day.The type of riding we do would be dangerous for a daydreamer or someone that wants to evaluate their situation in life.Thats usually the guy that cruise around town in a mental fog.I never just ride around town, when my bike leaves the garage,it steers itself to the mountain roads.

Jealous big time that you live that close. We have some good roads up in MA, but NH has some better ones....I've never ridden the GAP though.

I've all but given up riding on the road after writing off my bike the price of getting going didn't seem worth it, so now i'm spending my time/money in mountainbiking. I ride for the satisfaction, the sensation of being in complete control while on the limit of your own capabilities. The type of riding that is irresponsible on public roads.

I've just had a killer argument with my girlfriend, so just been out on my bike for 50 miles and I feel a lot better. I can't explain it to any one who doesn't ride, I have a car license as well and my friends don't understand why I'd rather be out on my bike in the cold, than be in a warm car.
I don't know myself, but I love it... I love her to.

My oldest child is older than you and when I have a barney with the cook I still like to cut a few miles (kilometres - whatever)

If you ride to belay life’s disappointments then do your best to give yourself a disappointing life, I did and I love it.

That's the closest I come to Zen

Here we go again....what's with all this 'most geriatric member' competition.
Before we know it Barry will pop up and say he has a teenaged great grandson.

Are you suggesting that we should be ashamed of our age

Who? Moi? Of course not!!! I love watching the oldies turn up on their hogs on Sunday morning rides to the bar at the beach. What I DON'T get is there seems to be some kind of competition going on with a few people vying for the 'most ancient biker on the forum' trophy. As mentioned in another post...the Gerrie club.

And Curve...for goodness' sake...you're 36. Not much older than me. It seems you need another couple of decades under your belt to even be in the same league as these guys!
