Cool man. I think we need a "who is high" thread to go along with the "drunk" thread homeboy.

i ride for competition. as doc said, you have to be stupid good to win money at road racing. i can break top 5 most the time, and win some contingency money (tires, etc). but to actually be getting on the podium and get the prize money? you first would have to put a ton of money into it.

i also ride for the pure skill of it. (if that makes sense)

its hard to explain to someone how difficult it is to ride a bike fast on a technical course. there is soooo much input coming from every part of your body. feet, hands, butt, eyes, and the list goes on. multiply all that by the speeds you are going, and throw in 40 other maniacs on the track with you and you have to have some pretty good skill to keep that thing underneath you. AND manage to get into the top 10! WHOOO!!

as you can tell, i LOVE IT!

I ride for fun and for feeling. I wish I could take it to the track more but I just don't have the money specially now that gas is eating up all my spare change.

I ride for release. When im about to blow a gasket,i hop on my bike and head for the twisties. And i ride for the camaraderie of being able to get away from the wife and kids for a weekend and spend time with the guys, drinking, farting, telling old stories.Im in the boat business and to say it is down would be an understatement. My wife and i were discussing what we could cut back on and she brings up the 250.00 set of tires every 2 thousand miles for my bike.I tell her thats really not negotiable, besides the alternative would be me not blowing off steam and i would end up shooting her.She didnt think that was to funny

I'm only 17 but have been riding for quite a few years (off road), I did my full test a couple of days ago and I ride for the release it gives. I've just had a killer argument with my girlfriend, so just been out on my bike for 50 miles and I feel a lot better. I can't explain it to any one who doesn't ride, I have a car license as well and my friends don't understand why I'd rather be out on my bike in the cold, than be in a warm car.
I don't know myself, but I love it... I love her to.

Ride for fun. You can race and release and whatever you want, but if you're not doing it for fun then I don't know why you would take such a risk.

I know, cant help it cause I just had surgery, so all i do is lie around the house all day eating pain pills and lurk on the internet....helps the day go by faster.
beats sleeping, eating and getting fat like i did the previous surgery.
Im not one on those guys who gives a .... about post count though
I'll try to cut back on the posting, but this is a subject I happen to love, since I cant ride right now

I know what you mean,i had knee replacement surgery about a year and a half ago and i judged my therapy everyday by going home and getting on my bike and seeing if my knee would bend enough to get on the pegs of a sport bike.My therapist thought i was crazy when i would tell her to make me cry if you have to but i want to ride which means i have to bend my knee.3 weeks after surgery,i went home from therapy and bam,i could wedge my foot onto the peg.I sat there on my bike while it was on a race stand for about a half hour till i couldnt take it anymore.Got off, straitened it out,got the bike off the stand and fired her up.My wife comes out in the garage wanting to know what i was doing.I was putting my helmet on and she thought i was bullshittin till i left the drive way and headed out for a ride.I actually went and rode deals gap 9 days in a row and the weird thing was,i had basically no strength in my leg and every time i layed into a left corner,my leg would just flop out.I also stop at signs with that leg down.I had to learn quick to use the other leg. After 40 years of stopping with one certain leg down, that was harder than it seems

deals gap you say? not what it used to be (cops), but the ride up to cashiers is quite nice, without the hassle. up for a ride some day? my bike is completely race prepped, but it wouldn't take me all that much to get her legal for the street if you were ever up for it.

Sorry to put it the hard way, but at 17 it never lasts anyway, at least it shouldn't IMO. There's plenty of chicks out there, experience all you can befoer its too late.

I agree. I would never ride angry or in an altered state of mind. Too much risk involved.
