Lately, there's been a lot of posts that belittle riders so i figured in the spirit of the holidays, we should have a thread that only praises riders' abilities, personalities, and whatnot. please don't start a flame war here =)

anyhoo, i'll go first..Casey Stoner

I've only started watching motogp in 2008, it was the China race where the stands in the back straight was empty lol. I started reading powerslide around the laguna seca race and haven't stopped coming back since. But i remember really well the posts of people talking about how Casey was mentally weak and that he'd rather race the clock than other riders. The hissy fits/tantrums he had were well documented here. For some reason, people tend to focus on the negatives when it comes to Stoner but man, that guy is seriously a talented rider. He's a joy to watch when he's working at his optimum level. He tears up the tracks, he has good passing maneuvers, AND he's mentally strong. One only needs to watch the catalunya race of 2007 to see that Stoner is, in fact, not mentally handicapped. He diced it out with rossi (and to a lesser extent, pedbot) for a good part of that race and came out on top.

this guy is fast on any bike. I watched some of the 2006 races and he was doing REALLY well on the gresini honda. He, along with J.lo, will be bringing motogp into the future in my opinion.

happy holidays everyone

i appreciate all of them... even the nuckleheads.

Alright.... deep breath .... I actually admire what a tough little ....... Pedrosa is. The injuries he has sustained and his continued ability to ride fast with them is very impressive. Even the staunchest of Hayden fans would have to respect that (but I could be wrong)

Any Man Who can throw a leg over a motorcycle and ride it, is worthy of appreciation! Now The guys who Race are worthy of worship and thats pretty much what we do on this forum. All the ........ begins when we start comparing them to each other, In reality even the slowest 125cc racer is probably capable of outriding 90% of the worlds riding population. These are all Super Human men with a very special Gift. Its amazing and inspiring to watch when they go out and crash at these high speeds, get injured and jump right back on the bike or come back the next week to race with a broken bone. I have immense respect and appreciation for all motorcycle racers, but it does make for good entertainment to point out there flaws and poke some fun at them on this Forum

I agree.

But i sometimes watch old recordings just to see and hear prototype bikes being ridden. So i guess i'm a fan of the bikes themselves too.

.......... hell I'VE got brass balls.. pro moto riders have titanium balls
<

If we're talkin' 'bollocks' - (which is frequently the case on this forum), and it's titanium testicles you want....

Even so, Troy managed to crack open one of his 'nads in the above crash, and in addition to the fact that part of his little finger needed amputation he had to be ordered by team management not to compete in Race 2 and undergo surgery in Derby instead. While still on the subject of riders plums, I remember Frankie Chili crashing at the corkscrew one year and reputedly his knackers hit the tank with such force that he sheared off the retaining bolts.

Perhaps 'nuts' would be the best member to continue this theme.

Current riders I appreciate? Karel Abraham for having the audacity to inherit a Moto GP ride based solely on the fact that his Father owns half of the Czech Republic. (To be fair, the kid rode like a hero at Valencia, and has impressed me this year in many ways). Simonceli, for adapting his style so well to that bit-part supposedly factory Honda, which lacks the same throttle response availed to Pedrosa and Dovi. Ben Spies.........for being Ben Spies. Colin Edwards who's continued insistence to 'tell it like it is' makes him the 'Johnny Knockdown' of the Moto GP paddock. Casey - because he doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'limit' - which is why he's so consistently entertaining. I also have to say, one Jorge Lorenzo Guererro - because his full name sounds like a Venezuelan Guerrilla Rebel leader. More importantly, I've watched the guy turn his head round from a petulant child to the most mature and focussed racer in the paddock. His points haul this year was a deserved record, and the transition from the error prone rider of '09 to the near flawless article of 2010 witnessed one of the most - if not the - most impressive campaigns in recent GP history. (We still remember you Freddie).

Oh .... - amazingly, no ones mentioned Rossi yet. Being as this is inevitable, (as inevitable as Tom condescendingly pointing out that Casey in fact rode for LCR in 2006 and not Gresini), I'll mention THE comeback last summer, and the stunning fight that the Doctor showed at Laguna in particular.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but in closing I reckon we need a 'Long'-rider appreciation thread. I consider it an honour to be privy to the early stages of the book......inspirational.
