hi guys i was reading on gpone and came across this...

¨A note that Andrea Dovizioso would turn in his favor during the championship, which sees Pedrosa currently not one hundred percent of the physical form. Senza contare che sta scemando l’appoggio personale che lo spagnolo ha sempre avuto dalla Repsol, sempre più tentata dal passaggio in F.1 con il giovane Jaime Alguersuari, e già in trattative con Jorge Lorenzo. Not to mention that the support is waning, that the Spanish staff has always been by Repsol, which are increasingly tempted by the passage in F1 with the young Jaime Alguersuari, and already in talks with Jorge Lorenzo.¨

so what do you guys think? i don´t know if i´m getting it wrong since google translator is not very accurate, but i think that with pedrosa getting bad press with all the puig thing, this could happen.

sorry, the link

i can understand repsol getting frustrated with dani. He was billed to take the world by storm once the 800s came into play, but so far he's done nothing apart from get bad press. It makes sense for repsol to enter into talks with lorenzo if they're after a good spanish rider. I think it's too early in the season to read into rumours. Anyway I thought Jorge was happy at Yamaha?

He probably is. He's said he wanted to be with Yam for his career. However $$$ talks louder. I can see this happening.

Repsol 99!
Pedrosa drops Puig and goes to Gresini Honda, replacing Elias.
Fiat Yamaha adds Colin in 1 year deal as placeholder for Spies.
Bautista runs a 5th Yam under Aspar.
Kawasaki comes back as title manufacturer, keeping Marco.

Everyone was as good as they could be on the 990. Torque compensated for nearly all rider flaws (of which Dani has few). Now people are overriding the 800's and we are seing the unadulterated skill. In motorsport, I want the 'motor' to count as much as the 'sport'. That's clearly not the case now.
It's like if everyone in the NBA had to play in flip flops or all baseball players had a standard bat size.

Late apexing was as much a test of skill as it was nerve, as was rear wheel steering/powersliding. This 800cc monorailing is more about precision to the detriment of out and out racing.

If everyone in the NBA was forced to play in flip flops, or all World Series baseball players had a standard bat issue, then the question would be as to which governing body had acquired the series first - Dorna or DMG

I know like many you miss the characteristics of the old bikes, but i don't think riding an 800 requires any less skill or nerve. Evidence would suggest it needs more of both if you look at how other riders struggle to keep up with the cream of the series. No doubt the bikes aren't providing close racing anymore, but it's impossible to determine how significant 190cc are to that outcome.

As for Lorenzo - Repsol rumours, i suppose it is possible he is in talks. I suppose he is in a position now where he has to decide whether he is gonna bank on Rossi leaving motogp sometimes soon so he can become team number 1, while hoping none of the next generation arrive in Rossi's place and threaten him. Aleternatively he could move to HRC and try and lead the team forward as number 1 from the start. I'm still unsure which i think would be better, i need to see more races of this season first.

At no point did I suggest that riding an 800cc Moto Gp bike did require any less skill and nerve than a 990.

Why is it impossible to determine how significant the loss of 190cc has been to the racing?

Ok fair enough

Because there are far too many variables. Unless we know how the 990's would have developed in equivalent circumstances we won't know which changes are responsible for what we see now.

They certainly wouldn't have significantly shed any of their monster torque curve, which is the crucial factor here.

Well like i just said, you cannot be sure which is the crucial factor (if any), as so much changes in the sport.
