<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>The US deal is with media giants Discovery Communications, via their high quality HD Theatre Channel, which will be re-launched next year as a motor themed channel called Velocity and will be available in nearly 60 million American homes.

Are we finally going to have a real motorsports outlet that focuses on educated the general public?

Is it possible that the AMA could use velocity as a platform for destination viewing that will educate the public about sport bikes and motorcycle racing?

I'm cautiously optimistic and I can't wait to catch Isle of Man coverage on HD theater!

Will see. BTW, who owns Discovery? Do you know? Are they in any way connected to SPEED?

Discovery Communications Inc owns the discovery channel.

As far as I know, it is it's own stand alone media company and is publicly traded on the NASDAQ.

I don't know if any other major networks (like FOX) have a controlling/majority interest in the company.

I am a bit confused. It says that there is a deal in place for the 09 TT, but that has already passed. It also states that there is a five year deal until 2013, but I fail to see how 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 are five years.

Okay, I just realized that the post was made a few days ago. Was the TT broadcast here in the US over this past week? I wish I found out earlier ;(.

Why would the TT having already passed this year preclude it being broadcast later this summer?

i don't think it's been broadcast here in the states yet.... better not have been

I wouldn't get too excited about HD Theatre, not unless serious changes are made. The racing stuff the channel currently shows tends to be several years out of date. I lost count of how many times I've seen Goodwood 2006 races on there.

The channel seems to be more for showcasing HD picture quality, hence the title, than developing shows and viewership. A lot of it seems like filler.

But if the channel is being re-launched under a new name, there could be some hope for change.

Hmmm......which one should I reply to?

I think the format of Discovery HD theater channels is what excites me the most. The rebranding indicates that more vehicle savvy personnel will be put in charge of making programs. I'm actually hoping they will make more destination programming that revolves around the AMA. I'm hoping the AMA can make a few common sense changes to the rules that will bring more performance without breaking people's budgets.

It is extremely difficult to capture the essence of riding. It is slightly different for everyone, but all of us certainly feel a certain something when a bike is leaned over on its side. The only motorcycling media that has ever captured the feeling of riding a motorcycle is DTK, imo.

It is very difficult to capture the brutality of riding a 990cc 4 stroke at old school bumpy Laguna while still conveying a sense of inner peace to the audience. Good motorcycling media is in very short supply. It keeps our ranks thin and our lobbying power low. Hopefully, Velocity HD will help.

With some luck, more people will use the DTK model to make good motorcycling media.

Sorry about that.

Maybe they could hire Mark Neale to put the shows together?

The slow motion shot of Rossi at the bottom of the corkscrew and Edwards' narration of how to climb the hill stick out the most for me.
