Using that logic, once the other rookies turned the first wheel in pre season practice, they ceased being rookies.Like someone else said, track experience and traveling with the carnival for years trumps any perceived advantage Spies might have gotten in 2 wild card races. You are entitled to your opinion, but i doubt your going to get much support on this one.

Funny you say that because me and the misses were commenting on how much weight it looks like nicky has lost.

Don't they usually have that rose water stuff instead? I didn't even see them spraying that this time.

Look at the difference in the tucks. Nicky makes Dovi look ragged, and he's a 250 kid. He's fighting for every last thousandth on that Duc, too bad he didn't get the extra .01 he needed.

Dean Adams wrote an article over at Soup about how thin Nicky has gotten. He tried to guess his weight but Nicky wouldn't answer. I think he confirmed that brother Tommy weighs in the low 140s and Nicky looks significantly thinner. I believe Hayden came into MotoGP at around 155-160 in 2003.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Talpa @ Apr 12 2010, 05:12 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Sorry dude but I have to disagree. Many other things could have happened to stoner pushing the pace he was including fuel, tyres, engine and so on.

The smart money is on the smart rider who knows what pace to run to complete the race in front, these new rules change a lot across race distance.
Cs continues to demonstrate a resistence to learning from his mistakes, I'm sure the fiat boys are very happy that he is a very slow learner otherwise he would be a much bigger threat. The other thing to consider is his lack of participation in dogfights since laguna 08, we know the way he likes to win races. I actually hope he can get it right as the field looks very good and we could be in for some classics this year.

This reminds me of when dani fell off in Germany 08 whilst ahead by miles, too fast for the conditions. Others probably could have gone that pace too and suffered the same fate.....

You didn't read the quote machine, did you?
<

Casey said he crashed b/c he slowed down. Without high corner entry speed (and probably agressive braking) he didn't have enough load on the front tire.

Can we please burn this picture. Well I guess you can't burn the internets. It hurts everytime I look at it. Tuck those love handles back Nicky!

Came to think of it. The ueven fiering on a IL4 can't be easy on the crank. Making those parts durable in a MotoGP bike could be a challenge compared to the V4's

Burgess etc having Vales yam so slow and 17th in the speed trap
even allowing for slide slow corner speed etc
that m1 last night just didn't perform..

was it a sick motor from the get go

In Qatar - you might be able to have booze in your mini-bar if you have a
Western passport. It was like that when I was in Pakistan. And they used
to allow the same in Iran.

For sure - in Iraq there's plenty of moonshiners. And in Aghanistan -
hash is plentiful, and there's hot and cold running heroin. I'd still
prefer a cold beer.

Buying alcohol in Qatar

Also see: No new permits at the QDC!

Laws

Qatar is a place where people, including Muslims, can legally buy alcohol and then be taken to court for drinking it. Earlier this year an Egyptian man had some beers on a plane on the way here to try and forget the toothache he had. After checking in at his hotel he got a taxi and asked the driver to take him to a dental clinic. Instead, the driver took him to the police station and he ended up receiving lashes for being inebriated. When the sentence was passed, he wept (source: Gulf Times).

I wanted to clarify the laws regarding alcohol. Yet when I rang the Qatar Distribution Company, the only legal distributor of alcohol in the country, they claimed not to know the laws regarding alcohol. However, Qatar Law states that drunken behaviour in public or driving under the influence of alcohol is an offence punished by imprisonment, a fine or both (www.qatarlaw.com). As Sharia law is practised for Muslims, the punishment for Muslims may include lashing.

Where to buy alcohol in Doha

The only licensed shop you can buy alcohol at is the Qatar Distribution Company. To do so you need an alcohol permit, which can be obtained at the centre. Unfortunately, you can’t enter the shop without an alcohol permit, and you can only get an alcohol permit in the shop. You can also buy alcohol from hotels, which are (wait for it) supplied by the Qatar Distribution Company.

no not actually but he had the slowest bike. and the actual word was that he won where he had a little chance.

It's very bad considering his wins could be more than 25, with easily 2 titles instead of 1
had he been just a little wiser, less of a Foreman and more of a Muhammad Ali, for those who are old enough to understand what I mean... Kinshasa 1976 was a lot like Laguna Seca 2008, now that I think of it

Anyway, let's give him the rest of this season to prove us wrong. If even Lorenzo seems to have become wiser, why shouldn't Stoner grow up as well, eventually

Two races means two weekends, six full days on a MotoGP bike -- and a race weekend matters more than a test weekend. Plus, he did the winter tests like all the others. So one is entitled to think that he has a head start compared to the other rookies. Saying this does not discount in any way his great talent, of course! I consider Ben Spies the new star of MotoGP -- and that makes it even more difficult for me to see him as a rookie.

so you don't think he should be eligable for rookie of the year?

I think much more of him -- I think he will be eligible as the "new alien" of the year.

Using that logic, if Aoyama or any of those others - that everyone else on the planet -
perceive as rookies - were to be injured and miss two races - would that mean that
they'd been demoted back to Spies' level of rookieness? C'mon, admit it, it's a really
sophist distinction. When a rider can come from a decade or more of riding 125s and win two world
championships in the 250 class - can be still be called a rookie - it really devalues the meaning
of the word. Aoyama and Bautista and Simoncelli are unquestionably veterans of the GP circuit
- as compared to Spies who before his first wild card in Europe - had never even been on an
airplane before.
