i think the air valves is the way forward not desmo's, desmos have to many moving parts and are a nightmare to shim up. as you pointed out above, its old technology

yes i agree about the desmo's valve system but its still good at the moment for about 2000 rpm more than the yam's pneumatic system, even tho they have gained 1000rpm more it's still not enough the desmo revs like a ..... lol, the yam engineers better get workin fast.

There's a reason nobody else makes desmo engines, and it ain't patents, it's the complexity. The higher the revs go, the more benefit there will be from pneumatic valves. This is Yamaha looking to the future - maybe season after next will see it come into it's own.

Which Ducati have sorted out, they've been working on them for so many years it's easier to use them than anything else, and far easier, as they have such vast knowledge of them.
