Pitt returns to WSBK on a BMW

Andrew Pitt and Roland Resch form the rider line-up for Reitwagen BMW's first season in the World Superbike Championship
Andrew Pitt has confirmed he will return to the World Superbike stage for the first time in four years after agreeing to ride for the new Reitwagen BMW team.

The two-time World Supersport Champion and former World Superbike race winner will ride a BMW S1000RR alongside the already-confirmed Roland Resch in 2010 following an announcement that also saw Johan Stigefelt revealed as technical manager.

Pitt has not raced in the World Superbike Championship since the end of the 2006 season, when he was dropped by the factory Yamaha team.

Following a brief appearance with Ilmor in MotoGP, Pitt stepped back to World Supersports in 2008, where he duly secured a second title for Ten Kate Honda. However, after struggling to defend his crown this season, Pitt subsequently lost his spot in the team to Michele Pirro.

Nonetheless, Pitt has found his way back to World Superbikes with Reitwagen Motorsport, who will become the first satellite team to prepare BMWs in 2010.

In addition to signing Pitt, Reitwagen Motorsport also revealed Stigefelt as its new technical manager. Coming in the same week it was confirmed that his own project, Stiggy Racing, has been forced to dismantle, he will be joined by other key members of the Stiggy team for 2010, while fellow former racer Peter Goddard takes on chassis engineer duties.

Pitt's last season in World Superbikes yielded his first and only race win at Misano, while five further podiums saw him end the season fifth overall. Resch, meanwhile, failed to score any points in his maiden season of WSBK racing this year.
