Do I dare ask, 'What happened to it?'   Hopefully a glorious wreck.  I'd be gutted to hear that you sold it off.

Great stuff!

I preferred the Z1300, I though it was better looking, - again they were initially weak motors though. The early models were prone to throwing rods due the the fact that Kawasaki miscalculated the size of the sump, which was increased to 6 litres on the later models. despite this I nearly bought a mint used one, and would have done were it not for the fact that it nedded a new CDI unit which was impossible to sort a the time.

I used to despatch with a guy who used to ride a Z1300 -

Everyone else was riding either an understated GS550 or the obligatory plastic maggot, - there was Ronnie sat atop his car without doors, with handlebars and a seat. We used to call him Judge Dread.

Actually what I really wanted at the time was a Z900 to be like Toecutter.

My local tyre dealer still runs the CBX1000 he originally bought in 1979.

A mate of mine has owned 4 zed 13's that i know of and all threw a rod

There was a bike club up north years ago called the F.W.E (....... wide engine) club. They all rode cbx thou's i think they were the only 24 valve production bike engine. Think the z13 and the Benelli sei were 2 valve per pot ??

Yea, I'm pretty sure you're right.  The Z1300 was kind of a mutant, liquid cooled, 6 eyed KZ engine.  They also have a reputation for eating cam chain tensioners and guides, usually resulting in a nasty introduction of Mr. Piston and Mrs. Valve.

I don't think the Italians even knew how to count to 4 at that time.

I almost bought a CBX last fall. The price and condition were good, but I finally convinced myself to bail due to my employment 'status.'

A CBX, GPz 750 Turbo, or other dinosaur, is hot on my shopping list as soon as I can land a decent job.  The FWE club sounds awesome!

Who can argue with sound like this?

About 10 years back, I somehow wound up with a leviathan 81 GS850G - the shaft drive version.  While not quite Dredd Class, it was Damn Heavy and a real ..... to pick up on the one occasion I slipped on some slime and tipped it over at a stop light. Suzuki says the 'motorcycle' weighed 600 pounds, but I don't believe that for a minute; maybe they meant 'engine and drivetrain.'

Gs was a good solid motor. The gs 1000 and 1100 are pretty much the exact same as the zed 1000 and 1100. i believe some parts are inter changeable. Not surprising as they are both the work of the same man. Worked for kawasaki for years then defected to suzuki.
