Was just reading on Autosport that they're bringing in penalty points for 2013, that should shake thngs up a bit, no more being a naughty boy or else it seems.  Sounds like, in theory, it could be a good thing to me.

This is what is says:

MotoGP is to introduce a penalty points system for riding transgressions from the start of the 2013 season.

The move follows calls for greater consistency from the officials during 2012, particularly in Moto2 and Moto3, where riders felt several incidents were treated either too leniently or with excessive harshness.

Up to 10 penalty points can be imposed, with sanctions applied at certain thresholds. Any rider reaching four penalty points starts the next race from the back of the grid, while seven points lead to a pitlane start and 10 points a race ban.

"The Marquez rule."

I prefer:

'After the fact Marquez rule'

or

'After he got his title Marquez rule'

or

'By luck he didn't murder somebody but now we'll save face Marquez rule'

or

'We sat back and didn't do anything but now lets pretend we are doing something Marquez rule

or

'How will Kropo spin this news to mean its our confirmation bias and does not particularly have anything to do with Marquez rule'

:)

At least they are doing it now and not waiting for something to happen in the big class and getting into another Simoncelli witch hunt type of situation like we had before.

Good article, Krop.

So...after all the kerfuffle over the quickshifter and bollox about not cutting fuel (from that German mag?) all it was that the other teams were too dim to put a variable cut-out duration on their quickshifter. That's a indictment on the other teams, not a stroke of genius on the part of MM's.

The Swiss journo in question complained to me about 'the spirit of the rules' being violated. That same journo is manager to both Bradl and Luthi.

why does motoWE Piss about with lucky dip rules its simple

small guys are at an disadvantage over heavier guys like in boxing

So they should have rules like this 1sec start advantage for the small guys per kg they are under weight over the heavier riders

So motogp MarcM weighs lets say 55kg and Rossi say 67kg

so at the start of a race M&M GETS A 12sec start advantage over Rossi

this will result in all riders reaching the finish line on the last lap together

the result being decided by a photo finish.this will be ruled on by photoshop Spain Branch.

why does this TV Entertainment show have to be so complicated its easy to have rules to favour all

They had rules last year!

Whats needed is someone in Dorna to have the balls to enforce them fairly!

I don't expect things to change much!

Especially where the golden child is concerned!

Same bollocks different season!

That is exactly the point, any rules are only worth having if you have a neutral person, or people, who will administer them fairly. If is is perceived that there is any bias then they're a complete waste of time. I hope rather than believe this will happen.

F1 brought in where a former driver attends each race as a steward, it was supposed to help make things more fair. I would say it didn't as different drivers have different views on what is fair and what isn't and they handed out varying degrees of punishment. How you find neutral people who understand the sport well enough to make a fair call each time something questionable happens I have no clue, I just know I wouldn't want to be them as no matter what they do there will always be those who cry foul.

"Though the new system is a clear improvement, in that now everyone can keep track of which rider has how many points, it still leaves Race Direction open to charges of arbitrary decision-making. Race Direction are free to decide to penalize riders with as few or as many points as they wish."

Determining the seriousness of the offence, and enforcement of rules should be determined Roman Coliseum style.

Interesting. Turns out confirmation bias is not 'bias'; but rather 'confirmation' after all, eh. Well done Krops. My work is done here. :)

No. If you read the story, you would understand that the rules which have been drawn up are to clarify a situation which arose as a result of incidents, many of which Marquez was involved in. The technical regulations in Moto2 were changed because a number of teams were using the same system as Marquez. Marquez' team were just the first to figure it out. At Valencia, I had one engineer complaining to me about the new rule changes, and being robbed of the advantage they had worked so hard to create. This is the same engineer who has been trying to convince me that Marquez is cheating, and who keeps promising to show me proof, but for some reason never does...

True enough.  The situation mirrors 'real world' politics.

Those with power .... about and make a big show of passing laws that supposedly protecting the commoners from crime, guns, Golden Boy Torpedo Attack, whatever.

In reality, there are already more than enough laws and rules on the books...
