Perhaps he is wedded to aristotlean logic and is observing internal consistency given his choice of number for the 2008 season. If so, I guess it could be considered admirable in terms of intellectual rigour, if not necessarily helpful to his overall cause.

Uh, do what?

lol, okay....wow, his logic is dooming his career! #3 @ Repsol = his days are numbered !! Better bring home that Cup, and fast!!

Pedrosa in terms of marketability just shot himself in the foot. SOrta like when Dale JR added the 8 to his number 8 to be 88. There are loyal Pedrosa fans I am sure and are a bit confused as to why he feels the need to keep his number as close to number one as possible. I think the more he does this and at present with the current trend of him going from 2 to 3 means that he will be further from the number 1 each consecutive year as he is in GP. SHoulda stayed with 26 at least he could build up the recognition not unlike Rossi with his 46 number, 27 with stoner, 69 with Hayden, 65 capirex and so on and so on. Plus Pedrosa has an ego that won't let him do some things so I also think that the move to be 3 is warrented since he now is taking a bit of the role Biaggi had mostly in attitude and being disliked.

I think it's completely idiotic to change numbers anyway. Think about some fan who has a shirt or flag or whatever with the old number and now it's dated.

Bollocks.

I was mainly joking, I think he should have stayed with 26, although there may be an element of attempting to demonstrate that he is a purist/traditionalist. I would be very surprised if stoner doesn't go back to 27(edit); I believe he only took#1 at ducati's insistence.

Apart from what Wander said and as much as I hate the little steamer I dont see the big deal, Its only a number and he used it before

27 bro, 26 is Dani's number (typo I know).

Casey already has 27 on the 2009 bike. I believe he said in an interview he was going to use #27 as well, establish some branding etc etc.

No.1 is only good for branding if your name is Mick Doohan.

Casey also had #27 on the 2008 bike so was always going back when teh time come (I suspect).

As for DP's choice I do not see what the problem is as the race numbers are available based upon your finishing position the previous year (first call), thence if you do not want you position you can choose other available numbers. Maybe DP does not have any real superstition or problems with being #3 whereas many of todays riders seem to see not having #1 as being a failure (ie. first loser).

Yeah Stoner is smart to not change his number like dani did. I also think when Stoner won the WC Dani couldn't stand it so he had to appease his ego so he went to number 2. Then in another attempt to draw attention to himself he does it again with the number 3. HE is a dickheaded guy and deserves the criticsm he gets.

Funny. I hope so though. The rule is you can't get a number smaller than your finishing order, so if ...... Dani finishes 4th, Dovi will need to finish 3rd or better to keep his number.

Dani is a circus clown. Not image conscience(Tom) my ..., he is the biggest image and posterchild of the very definition of ........

I'm not exactly sure what the rules are, but it can't be as simple as this. Dovi finished 5th this year, yet will run #4 next year. Edwards finished 4th in 2005, but since then has only managed 7th, 9th and 7th, yet retained #5 throughout.

i was wondering about this myself. i'd have to say that edwards kept the #5 because nobody who finished in 5th claimed it.

One has to claim the number.

Yes, I forgot to add this part. (I figured it was understood). My point was that knowing Peders, if he finished 4th, he is the time of jerk that would heist Dovi's number.
