I think that they would understand that the person asking the question, and most of the people hearing the answer, do not fully understand the all consuming level of dedication and effort that it takes to perform at that level, and that once you swing a leg over the bike and commit to go for it - for the pole, for the fast lap, for the win, for the not fastest lap but the fastest average time - you never really sit back and take a rest. In fact, most times when you are forced to break from your routine - if somebody is following you or gets in your way or there is a mechanical problem - then it is far from a "break" from being on it and is actually more stressful as you force yourself to remain in that "on it" state of mind.

Rather than "yah, no ......." I'd imagine that they would nod their head thoughtfully and say, "yeah, that sounds about right" while they remember their days in his race boots.

I think they'd say "The guy is a level above everybody else."
