What happens to old GP bikes.
Where are all the old 500's and the 990's and even the 2007 model 800's.
I know Mick Doohan has one of the old Rothmans bikes and his 1999 Repsol bike on display in his house.
Are the bikes sold to collectors ???

I don't know for sure but from what I've gathered a few lucky riders have gotten to keep one of theirs, factories tote them around to motorcycle shows for display, put them in their museum, mothball them or destroy them.

It is my understanding that not many, if any, get into private hands. Austin is correct and many of the old bikes are crushed and melted.

I think in the old days, it was more common to sell them but in modern times I think it's impossible. Although they did auction off a KR V5 at Laguna a few years back. If I remember correctly, the reserve wasn't met.

There's no RC211v or NSR500 to be found in Taviula Italy but I heard there was an RC211V in someone's garage in Owensboro Kentucky.

This was discussed here a while back. There was a couple of links to articles documenting how many had been crushed which was most of them.
