how many bikes will the Repsol Team have in 2012? will they keep 3 bikes or go back down 2? and if they return to 2 bikes will Honda still have 4 official bikes like this year?

I think that depends on how Sic matures in the next 5 races. If he continuous to show a lack of respect for the other riders and a lack of patience and race craft then there will be only 2 as both Pedrosa and Stoner have 2 year contracts and I doubt Honda will want him as close to the front as he is now taking out their lead riders. If he grows then I think their will be 3 official factory bikes but the same scenario as currently with Sic's team arrangement. Dovi will be elsewhere unless he wins a few races genuinely.

Dovi doesn't have a contract for next year and I think they signed Casey as insurance first, it's paid off as poor Pedro is having a hard time getting in a complete season without having to deal with injuries. Stoner is faster and more durable, if he can pull out a championship this year there could be major shake ups at Repsol. Does any one know how much money/sponsors Sic can bring with him.

I go along with this, but would throw in that Pedro could be in danger if the ratio of bone-breakages to crashes continues - Repsol might latest 2013 want to spend the Pedro Euros on some one else. This may drive more mentoring and maybe a little more acceptance of Simo. Dropping Dovi - looks like it will happen - especially if Rossi starts to get in front of him - and ImO - it would be difficult to find a replacement from the current field - so bottom line Repsol 2012 with 2 - max 3 riders including go-alikes in other liveries. That said - I'd really like to see Spies on a 1000er Honda.

Honda will also be anxious to get Marquez into the big class as soon as possible. When that happens it will almost certainly be a the expense of Dani but I'm positive he will find himself immedsiately snatched up for another factory ride.

I certainly agree on this, he was outstanding on Le Mans. But wouldn't he have to go to a satellite team the first year?

Yes, but watch out for a timely amendment to the rulebook by about 2013 influenced by HRC floating on a raft of new sponsorship and the signature of the most prodigious up-coming talent since Valentino

What will be interesting is what happens to sponsorship after valentino retires. Will it be more equal and the championship winners find sponsorship from sponsors that left motogp?

I think it is tragic that during the last decade Dorna themselves have rested on their laurels and seemingly squandered such huge interest in the series through the Rossi phenomena which they could have capitalised upon in far more effective ways.

More equal, but I fear only in the sense that the total pie will be smaller. Once Valentino walks, a chunk of the money will be gone to. Mind you, I'm not sure if this will be a bad thing.

Can I take it one step further?

They have gone back to 1000cc to appease the fans and allowed production based engines to make up for the cash flow issue.

This is the vision of racing after Rossi.

Real fans will just remember him fondly and move on, the transient fans will leave when Rossi goes, but there will be a new set of fans to replace them, they just have to be nurtured a little.
