Yes. This is the off season. I am bored and watching all kinds of other sports yet missing motorcycle racing.

So the simple obvious question is: Why isn't there a Race of Champions for motorcycles?

I would pay to see something like this, especially if car drivers are racing on two wheels against other motorcycle riders.

How sweet would that be?

My very poor memory seems to recall some end-of-season mixed race, kind of SuperMotard, with guys from different bike disciplines. This was early-90s, so only single pages reports in local magazines. Copa d'oro?? Anyone??

The various WSBK/MotoGP fans banter back and forth about which series is the best. Who has the best riders.

Get on track prove it.

I like the ROC concept. It has an individual portion and a team/nation portion. Motogp is trying to grow and expand its market.

Here is a good example of how to do it.

Motogp/WSBK riders are all racing with representatives from other motorsports and other nations.

Great way to segue into a race at the home country.

Great way to keep the off season from boring everyone to death.

The AMA used to be like this wasn't it? Circa On Any Given Sunday? 4 road races, 4 flat track etc ..

But the first post idea is good, throw in a road circuit race and make sure everything is spec, that would be a lot of fun to watch.

They used to run the Guidon D`Or (Golden Handlebar) in France, mainly dominated by Peterhansel but not heard much of it lately.

Because Nicky would win this every year and embarrass everybody.  End of.

Sure did and its never been as good as the original

It was something like a "race of champions" when it was conceived.  I was a bit too young to have ever gone to it, but I heard about it being from California.  It was actually fairly popular in viewership at the time.  Not sure where you are from but we use to have ABC Wide World of Sports.   That was pretty much the only way we get some good stuff that wasn't stick and ball all the time (like the "sport" networks/shows/ programing of today in the US).  Some big names raced in this event.  I know Kenny Roberts did and some other great names that I an't think of off the top of my head, but there were both MX greats and roadracing greats as well as dirt trackers.  Thats why I say Nicky would have cleaned up.  The dirt aspect of this would have afforded him the advantage to leave everybody in the dust (no pun intended). ;)

I wouldn't mind if the brought back the Transatlantic Match. They were gas. (pun intended).

It is probably firstly because it would be hard to promote, car racing is much bigger than bikes and RoC still sometimes seems weak as an event.  There may also be an element of contractual issues, the risk of riders hurting themselves on bikes is much larger.

Thanks, Drill. Knew there was Gold in the title. Glad to know I'm not going senile.

Two small scale 'races of champions' (kind of) have just happened:

A few interesting riders gathered for a track day on superbikes. Don't miss the photo gallery at the bottom of the page, note Schumi's Ducati Panigale in AMG Mercedes colors... not likely to see one again!

The Simoncelli Supermoto day, in which Dovi, Rossi, Biaggi, Abraham, Pasini (who managed to crash there too) and many others, each coupled with a supermotard specialist, competed (in the cold and on a wet track) on supermotos, in a real race.

There's even an official video of the event by the Italian Motorcycle Federation:

Spoiler: Rossi didn't win it, but he beat Biaggi...

Have a happy christmas guys and girls.

Ducati should run this race by providing a field of 20 MotoGP machines. Because it would increase the chance that they find another rider who can actually ride their bike.
