You know, I like Nicky Hayden, I think this year he's been a lot more racey that 2005....but I still think he lacks that extra edge to push the bike to its limit when the tough gets going.

He's a very consistent rider and seems very rarley to make mistakes, he's leading the championship but I just feel he needs to get that extra "oomph" and give it a bit more!

Maybe he is a bit tentative because he's worried about making a mistake and dropping points. On his last last qual lap at Turkey he went into the chicane too hot and botched a fast lap. He was so hard on himself during the interview afterwards I just think maybe he thinks about the points rather than the win? Maybe he is already at his limit?

And who believes his comments "My tire warmer melted to the disc at the start, so I had breaking difficulties!"

Hmmm, im not so sure Ben.

I like nicky too, and part of me thinks his consistency and way of thinkin at the start of this year could land him the title if Yamaha keep going the way their going... just a feeling.

I do feel he has NUFF pressure on him though. I do also think that he will get at least one win this year, with him being up front so much.

Ben I would certainly agree with you in that Nicky has shown a lack of raciness over the years but this year I think that's changed. He looks to be riding with confidence he has never had on the RC211V now that he leads the development and is repassing and showing wheels and changing lines. He's never been a win it or bin it type of rider like his brother Roger, throughout his AMA days and thusfar in MotoGP he hasn't pushed himself past his limits barring a few occasions. I think we'll see a few wins out of Hayden come the end of the year. And yes, I buy the tire warmer story. He was running deep and wide on every corner.

Maybe it's a american bias or something but I think Nicky is a different racer this season. I agree that the tire warmer thing seems a bit lame but I have heard of this happening before.
Nicky just has to remain consistant and he will get a few wins.

nick's not an excuse maker. so i'd have to say i believe himon the tire warmer thing. as far as the extra omph...... i sorta half believe this to be true but i think ol nick will def win some races. laguna, saxon ring, & philip island are the 3 i think he can definately win.

Nickys definately changed. He`s serious this year. Really serious. His consistency is brilliant. I think the extra ooomph needs to come from the bike. Nicky needs the proper 06 RCV like Pedrosa and Melandri. Not the Frankenstien bike! I can just see Kanemoto building that think in Brno with the lightining and stuff "IT`S ALIVE! IT`S ALIVE!"
I think by extra oomph you mean 7 podiums in a row without a win. Nicky needs to win! Problem solved, I`m such a Genius

During post race interviews he deffinately seems more serious doesnt he?
At the mo it seems to be helping him stay consistent, i just get the feeling this seriousness might kill off the fun he his having and he could do a bit of a Gibernau later in the season(get complacent and unhappy with 2nds and 3rds and start binning it more) He is a racer and loves to win but he has to be happy with what he can achieve over a race weekend and say "this is all we could do". To be honest i think he just has a lot of pressure on him and i just hope hes the sort of guy that can stay where he is or go even better and start winning races.

Out of the 17 rounds i think these ones are his best bet too.

Nickys big grin and HRC worshipping have disappeared, hes definately serious. I dont think He`ll turn into a Sete though, not without help from Rossi.

Good post Ron, I like his newfound aggression but I hope he doesn't burn out.
