Looks like they have become more scientific these days, although it still looks extraordinarily scarey. Kneivel must have been totally crazy to do it the way he did.

Evil did jumps on a POS Harley...with little to no suspension...the new gen does it on state of the art suspensions.....Evil was BEYONG crazy

did you see that programme where richard hammond met Evil ?

what did you think of Evil ?
<

i was a bit too young to remember him in his prime and i never had any of the toys or nowt
<
so i only really found out anything about the guy once I got a bit older and he was pretty much finished by then ?

I'm not knocking the guy for what he did - he's mental and hard as nails - and I know he was very ill at the time (even more so than they would have realised at the time) but I just couldn't get away with him at all. He sounded like a bit of an arse to me ?

Perhaps it's just the way it was filmed, the timing of it all etc etc etc but I was really looking forward to seeing the show but in the end I was dissapointed with what I saw.............

Never meet your legends?

Am I going crazy? I could have sworn I just read another thread like this one.

Oh by the way, it’s supposed to be a statement not a question: Never meet your legends. (period)

Why, because they will disappoint you (is the idea). Well, I have two legends in my book that I want to meet before I die: Travis Pastrana and Kevin Schwantz. The problem is I think I will be so star struck that I will act the fool in front of them and won't remember ..... How do I know this, because when I met Wayne Rainey I fumbled around like an ..... to get my camera and said some stupid stuff like "Wow, you were such a great rider...(yes, I know, I regret looking like a total fool). Oh well, .... it, I'll risk looking like the fool, it won't be the first or last.

Evel did what is unimaginable today by the guys that are pushing the envelope. Today, daredevils are almost an industry, but back in the day, he was the only mad man doing such outrageous feats. It’s really hard to imagine unless you got to see it personally. But if you ever have the chance to ride or own an old bike of the type that he used (I have) then you will understand how fantastic it is that he accomplished. The ....... guy was all balls but not stupid, he calculated as best he could to make the jumps. Take a look at some of his crashes, and this will give you an idea of just how horrific and fantastic the jumps were.

Yes the guy was a bit eccentric, perhaps not the most personable guy to meet, but what he did was pioneer a generation of daredevils. I’d say the modern day Evel Knievel is Travis Pastrana. He’s now attempted .... like jump out of an airplane with zero parachute to dazzle our imagination of what is extreme.

jumkie, that is still the crazest thing i have ever seen in my life, i dont have many heros most seem to be dieing of late but after seeing the double sumasult i was a fan !

i think its all about what you want in your hero. some are happy that they are good at there proffesion, some its all about looks or style. you say you may be a star struck fool but thats not the worst thing. the worst for me would be if i met them and formed an opinion that they were a right jipo. imagine if you were doing a pit lane walk and overhead hayden whinning like a true ..... to everyone after the image you have formed of him in your head, you would be devestated.

evil was a hero i never met. some say he was a strange old stick but i loved him for the jumps and the wheelies.

Don't forget Evel did his stunts in the days before body armour, his leathers were just thin cow hide, nothing else. So .... bikes and no protection = legend (or madman).

Madison reported on foxsports in australia to have jumped 105.5 metres, further than his world record, in training for the forthcoming crusty demons event which I think is going to be held in melbourne.
