I like the QP format.  I often thought they should do something similar to f1 and it appears they did.

Not sure I do... how many people will Marky Mark take out in his quest to hit the last ten? :)

And only 15 minutes qualifying? It's going to leave a lot of riders struggling - that's basically a 3-4 lap shootout. You will be lucky to get two complete qualifying runs.

It worked well in F1, means you get rid of the slower cars, or in this case bikes, so the top guys have a clearer track to do their final shootout for pole. It made F1 qualifying way more exciting, whether it will do the same for our sport is another matter.

It's very different in F1. They get three goes at qualifying, dropping off drivers as they go.

The GP qualifying is seeded into two groups from their practice times (I thought it was practice, not qualifying?) and then only two 15-minute sessions to get it right. The top two from Group A (slow riders) get to go to Group B qualifying, so they get 4 qualifying runs, to everyone else's 2.

IMO it's ...... up. It's WSBK SuperPole... which sucks.

The question is, will it give a rider not typically at the front in a race a chance to qualify higher up the grid?  The answer in my opinion is no, the result will be the same.

The beauty of tyre competition back in the day when they ran qualifying tyres was a mid packer could jag a front row spot if they were able to exploit the Q tyre.  I created some interest in qualifying.  Now days it is always the same.  Saying that qualifying has more often than not being more exciting than the race.

At least now no one will be dawdling along on the race line which will make Stoner happy.  Oh damn....Stoner is retired.  Good time to introduce the rule then hey Ezpeleta.  Kinda reminds me of the timing of the introduction of minimum weight in Moto2!!!!!

I like this QP format as well. Qualifying is less important in MotoGP because it's possible to pass without having stupid 'push button to pass' rules like in F1. But I like that we first get a need to get into Q1 rather than Q2, which will focus interest on the mid-field. Then we get independent Q1 and Q2 battles, again putting some focus on the mid-field riders. And I like that there will be fewer bikes in each qualifying session to get in each other's way. Which is much more important now that Marquez is in the top class.

The only pity is that we didn't have this system last year, where we might have seen the comedy of Rossi not making it into Q1 some races.

Last night I couldn't even get the boy down the stairs. I am going to leave that there as a reminder that oxy and red wine ROCK.
