Need help figuring out a race from 1990/1992

Hi All,

Need a favour from those who have been following MotoGP for a while (and dont worry, I'm not making yet another video haha mind you my Rossi & Simoncelli vid has hit over 500,000 views while not big at all for youtube is big for me... and has made me wish i threw in a 'dedicated to JPLotus' at the start

)

Long story short, does anyone remember a race in either 1990 or 1992 where a rider fell off his bike but got back into the race and won?

while watching the race on the weekend my mum made the joke that Cal could still win even though he crashed yet my dad made the comment that it could never happen with any rider. My mum is convinced she saw a race where I rider crashed but then won back when she was in hospital after having my sister or brother.

So can anyone cast their minds back to either July 1992 or November 1990 and remember a rider "crashing" or falling off his bike but then getting back on to win the race? There's a family bet at stake here haha

I was only born in 1988 so my memory is completely useless here

Pretty sure Christian Sarron did it in the rain during his 250 days but that was before 1990.
Think Bayliss (WSBK) did it with his Ducati in the rain too, much to the annoyance of those who wanted to know why the engine kill switch didn't work, as it was part of the rules then.

Zack Osborne, last weekend at SX 250 final. Crashed on first lap, then on last lap deliberately torpedoed Joey Savatgy to "win" in grand WWE style, the "championship". (Given your propensity of cheering on Valentino Rossi, I think you'd appreciate this incident. Maybe you can make another video titled 'Rossi & Osborne--"this is racing". Include highlights of Sepang 15)

I believe the race your mum is referring to is a famous event in America racing folklore. 'Mr. Daytona' (Scott Russell). 1995 Daytona 200. Perhaps it was Cal Cuntslow, British prick, that jarred your mum's memory given Carl Fogarty, British prick, was also in that race. Let your mum know Jumkie says Happy Mexican Mother's Day (that's today).

I can't think of it sorry, annoying as it is.

But, that Troy baylis one in superbike, raining and I think he may have actually gone done more than once, but both ultra low speed drops or low sides.

Well remembered. I was there - 2002 and he came fifth. The Luffield stands were condemned but the rain was so heavy we went and stood in them anyway. All bikes were supposed to have engine kill safeguards automatically kick in when on their side and they even took to testing this later during scrutineering. Several riders were penalised for this but Ducati went unpunished despite Bayliss crashing twice and still finishing in fifth place. In Supersport it was a great race between the two Belgarda Yamahas of Whitham and Paulo Casoli (remember him?). Stair rods towards the end of the race caused Whitham to crash out but it was red flagged and taken back a lap when he was leading so he won. If I remember rightly, having won the first race, Colin crashed on the warm up lap of race 2 which Bayliss won.

I can't remember anything of the sort. Closest is Gardner crashing in the wet, remounting (fnarr) and working his way to 5th or something before crashing again and busting his leg

Miguel Duhamel at the Daytona 200 was the first thing that popped into my head, but I can't remember if he won, and I doubt this is what your mum is speaking about. Perhaps it was one of the lower cubic centimeter classes where it happened, and we just don't remember. Best o' luck.

Will try a JK special and google later but didn't Bayliss also do this on the 250cc Suzuki in a we PI debut?

For some reason I seem to recall a crash in the wet, pickup the bike and still 5th.

May have the wrong rider but am sure it was PI

Will start googling

I remember PI footage of his stricken gixxer spinning around in the middle of the circuit.

Yes, 1st race of 92, After the first accident he ripped off the broken wind screen
and rode the rest of the race (until 2nd off) in the rain with out it. Pretty gutsy ride.

That is the one .......... must have been WSBK as he was racing Suziest hat year in Oz, so may have had a WSBK wildcard which then led to the 250cc

Am definitely thinking WSBK now and google has helped as I recall him finishing 5th which he did in both legs of WSBK, and 6th on the 250

My favourite looking NSR500, too. With the meshed vents in the fairing nose. Mean looking bugger

I remember Chris Walker doing it in WSBK in Assen but that can't have been more than a dozen years ago, he's a sidecar driver now is Chris.
