GUYS....a whole season in MotoGP (including all races and tests, all team member's salaries and logistics costs) has an average cost of 7 milion €, EXCLUDING bike development.

The development of 2 Factory bikes and the manufacturing of all the parts that are used for a full season costs around 30 Milion € to a factory Team and around half of that (so 15 milion) to a non-factory one.

I'm obviously talking in general terms but my point is: putting up a motoGP team is a huge operation and you need A LOT of support from the main factory as well as a lot of support and investments from all sponsors.

The riders salaries have to be added to all this, too.

Jarvis: Lorenzo return "could happen"

Yamaha's Managing Director spoke to Sky Sports Italia to talk about Lorenzo's future

Tags MotoGP, 2018, GRAN PREMIO D'ITALIA OAKLEY, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Managing Director Lin Jarvis joined Sky Sports Italia’s Sandro Donato Grosso ahead of the Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley to talk about the future of his former World Championship winning rider, Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team).

“It is difficult to understand what will happen in Lorenzo's future, not least because he is not in an easy situation,” explained Jarvis. “He hasn’t left Ducati yet, at least officially, although many say the divorce is a certainty. If you had asked me this question four weeks ago I would have told you that he would have ended up at Suzuki, but now that seems an improbable hypothesis. I repeat, he is in a very difficult situation, because he has always been a factory rider, an official rider and considered fundamental by the team.”

Jarvis continued, talking about the possibility of the five-time World Champion leaving the Grand Prix paddock altogether. “We'll see if Jorge continues or not. We should wait but, in fact, he might quit. Also, because there is a possibility that next season there will be four or five places less in MotoGP.”

A rumour that has circled the paddock recently is the number 99 returning to the Japanese factory, but in the colours of an Independent Team. However, with no official Independent Team announced by Yamaha, or any confirmation that there will be one at all next year, Lorenzo’s future remains one of the biggest talking points in 2018.

Will we see the number 99 on a Yamaha machine in 2019? Jarvis said it “could happen.”

Jarvis: Lorenzo return "could happen"

Yamaha's Managing Director spoke to Sky Sports Italia to talk about Lorenzo's future...

It was hell at Yamaha alongside this snake Jarvis and Rossi, he had two options: Y. Grit it out and beat Rossi on in his house, take his revenge and continue to be a contender cementing his name amongst the greats in the sport, with the possibility of being unhappy all the time (though beating his teammate would have been sweet for him too), D. Go to Ducati where his life would have been emotionally better, perhaps; but predictably on a career killing machine.

He chose D.

He chose to jump ship because at the time he was being treated like ..... Having just won a title and being treated like he didn’t win anything was a biter pill to swallow, I wonder who among us (particularly his teammate) would have stood for it. Ultimately it was about ego for both, though of course with different circumstances. Compared to Rossi when he left to Ducati, the contrast is that Lorenzo was actually being treated like ...., whereas Rossi couldn’t stand taking what he perceived as a pay cut to pay, for Lorenzo who ultimately achieved scoring titles, a shot to Rossi’s idea of self-importance. Ultimately, it was pride. Carmelo acted as Rossi’s sport agent coercing Yamaha to take back the golden goose as rating had been plummeting, a real crisis for Dorna that required immediate and total remedy. I don’t think the same will happen for Lorenzo at Yamaha. Partly because Lorenzo was the villain, and we have a new villain, so Lorenzo leaving ala Biaggi isn’t necessary for the rating to stay up. Lorenzo is in a word, disposable. Ratings are unaffected by Lorenzo leaving as much as rating were not affected by Stoner leaving. I can’t imagine Carmelo calling up Jarvis and saying hey, I have an offer you can’t refuse, you know all those little things you want, I got a friend, you scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours, oh and we will sweeten the deal by subsidizing salary

Lorenzo may have continued to remain in Ducati’s good graces had he behaved with grace, so this situation isn’t just about his lack of performance, but his behavior. At one of Ducati’s most important moments in their history they were summarily caused embarrassment by a non-compliant arrogant employee; this didn’t happen in private, it happened in spectacular fashion. Ducati have made many stupid decisions, their worst was to replace Nicky with an arrogant overrated prick who dishonored his contract, having then to replace Cal Crashmore with Iannone, a bit of karma in that he was also a crashfest. Ducati then broke the bank to hire Lorenzo, another stupid decision, not because they shouldn’t have tied to get a great rider but because they overpaid in the extreme for a wedding destined to fail given Lorenzo’s riding requirements. As they say, never .... in your own bed.

Lorenzo is running out of options, he needs Ducati more then Ducati needs him, albeit that might mean a satellite Ducati next season.... I did hear last race that Ducati are working on a new frame with Lorenzo, which could easily become satellite bike next season.

I can buy the theory that J.Lo got treated like ... by Yamaha management because of the Rossi influence. But his crew seemingly wasn’t too fond of him either. He asked them to move with him to DucTi and they decided to stay put. If you look at Rossi or Márquez with their crews, they’re practically family.

J.Lo is not very good at making friends and that’s a big reason why he is in a no win (pun unintended) situation now.

Jlo can always go to Wsbk. I heard they're Yamaha program is hitting their mark.

Yeah I mentioned that before in half jest.
Van Der Mark is kicking ... right now, so it’s Lowes who he could potentially replace.

Whilst totally reasonable point, it is also worth pointing out that a number of his crew would have heard about Ducati and the manner in which they work from Team Rossi and may well have decided that a new up and coming rider was far more attractive than a poisined chalice at Ducati.

My tip, a little from column A and a little from column B

Whilst I doubt it is of interest to him, the fact that both are run by the same enterprise may well open doors.

Besides, there has never been a MotoGP/WSBK champion as yet.

We have had race winners in each but no champion of both

May not be like his going to Ducati and winning a race or title to one up Rossi, but it would still be noteworthy

Or they can give Rea a shot at HRC>>>!!! LOL!!!

Hmmm, Petronas Yamaha with Lorenzo and Syahrin?

Rumours abound but Petronas do have money and are Malaysian as is Syaharin

So VDS is going more or less .... up?

Genuinely no idea but have just seen that Petronas one and it could work out as they have the money.

Plus, if VDS decides to sell out he could easily do so to a team with Petronas money and, with Petronas having been a personal sponsor of Syahrin for his entire career it makes sense that he stays.

Of course DORNA see a great market in that region so would support a local rider but any team would need some experience and Lorenzo has that in spades with yamaha (I suspect that DORNA will want Syahrin for another few years yet)

All rumours but joining dots it could be logical, but it is only one of many that could be logical but this way, in a few years (if we continue the 'what if' scenario) you could easily expand the Petronas team to VR46.

Again, all rumours but hey, why not play a little.

Edit to add.
On MarcVDS it will be interesting but if all depends on who to believe actually has the power and licence.
A lot of talks says Bartholemy is the one with the power which if true could easily mean he goes to other sponsors, but I guess we will find out over time.
Sure puts a different slant on silly season for a change

Sounds like Morbidelli and Luthi gets screwed in any scenario to save Jlos career...

I would like to see J.Lo continue in MotoGP, but not at the cost of Morbidelli.
Give him Xavier Simeon's seat or something. No one will miss him.
Is Belgium even a real country?

Perhaps Valentino should have gotten his VR46 team going in the premier more promptly then rather than hanging around on the Yamaha factory team to no purpose I can discern. Jorge and Zarco on the factory team, Morbidelli and whomever on the VR46 Yamaha satellite team, swap Zarco and Morbidelli if you like, looks to me to have been a good way to go, both options constrained by Valentino persisting on the factory seat at age 39 as far as I can see.

Why is Dovi persisting in a factory seat at age 31?
He is P8 in the championship!

Or how about Pedrosa at age 32?
He is P10!

Dani has been a trooper and has contributed to HRC's title bids for the manufacturers' title but I would agree with many others that he has had his time as a factory Honda rider, and I strongly doubt he is ever going to contend for a riders' title now.

Most evidence would suggest Dovi is riding at close to his peak, and is also close to uniquely good on the Ducati. If you wish to argue Valentino should have Jorge's seat at Ducati I am fine with that.
